September Employee Spotlight: Ken Chandley has been with NBS for 22 years. He is currently a Senior Category Manager where he is responsible for vendor negotiations for the Winter Sports, Camping, Cooking, Water Sports, and Paddle Sports categories. We asked Ken the following questions. Q: What is your favorite part about working with NBS? A: My favorite part is when I hear from a Member that NBS has changed/saved their business. In that moment, I realize just how much of a positive and direct impact NBS has on independent retailers and I am proud to be a part of that! Last week we shared thoughts from our High Flyer Chris this week we touched base with Jo our Pride Awards winner on why she thinks she stood out and what it takes to succeed at Carpetright. Our Pride Award winner Jo Marriott said: When you work with a great team of people who want to deliver the best results, you feel compelled to do your very best to support them. I truly believe that if people ask for help you must step up and do the right thing, after all it’s really not hard, especially when you like people. Over the past couple of years InHome@Carpetright has been through an immense transformation, which has been exciting and challenging all at the same time and it’s been fabulous to have been part of this. I never dreamt I would win this, as there were so many worthy pride winners and am just so grateful to feel valued by others. I have been very fortunate to work for a leader who has wanted me to use my operational skills and push me to explore new ways of working and then allow me to put them into practice. I feel more alive in the past 2 and half years than I have for a long time. Having the right leadership makes all the difference it’s energising when you are recognised for who you are and what you have to offer. Recognition helps you grow that’s for sure. People make all the difference, be one of those wants to make a difference and not be frightened to step outside of your comfort zone. Be resilient and open to change and development. For those of you who don’t know Stuart Martin won the Hays Annual 2023 Management Award for Inclusive Leadership. This is something he well and truly embodies, 110% and this award was more than deserved. Stu is one of the most genuinely caring people you could met. He listens, and takes the time to understand his candidates, clients and his colleagues. In particular, he genuinely cares about each individual in his team – he is the first to ask how you are, how’s your day going or how was your weekend, how are the kid’s etc? and he actually listen to the answer, it’s not just lip service. If someone is down or not themselves, he will notice and make it his priority to see if he can help or assist. Stu has a selfless approach and puts this teams needs/wants above his own whenever he can. He is empathetic to all situations and really puts the individual at the heart of every decision he makes. Local winners were celebrated in their regions at luncheon events, while VIP regional winners were invited to the national gala dinner. National winners, representing various job roles and prize categories were announced during what was a spectacular and entertaining evening. This year's theme "Future Fast-forward," focuses on our commitment to innovation – and it was in evidence everywhere. The venue was transformed with reflective, contemporary décor that set the mood for a magic. A violinist with a laser bow accompanied by a light show opened proceedings, mesmerizing the audience. Awards... some love them some loathe them. I love them. Not because of the PR side of it. That's whatever. But for the confidence boost, team morale boost, and feeling of pride. And that smile. Can't beat it. 🥰 when they see ➡️they've been nominated. ➡️they've become FINALIST. ➡️they WIN... fingers 🤞🏼 I have done so many award nominations in the past 3 months. 26 nominations. Across 5 awards bodies. Across several clients. I don't ask my clients before I nominate. Why? They're all too humble and would feel not ready, not deserving. But they are smashing it and I want them to see it, believe it and know it ❤️ So I believe.... It is better to act decisively and apologize for it later than to seek approval to act and risk delay, objections, etc. #awards #business #businessgrowth #businesscoaching
