ER Physician Helping Dementia Family Caregivers Achieve Peace of Mind in Their Decisions | Educator, Speaker & Advocate | Let's Connect and Build a Positive Network
Medical treatments a person receives (when they can not speak for themselves) are often affected by the relationships between the people in their family. I see it all the time in the ER. Families not on the same page. One person saying, “They wouldn’t want this.” Another, “But we have to do something.” Or we can’t get a hold of someone, making it harder (or impossible) to choose. There are decisions you do not want to wait to make “in the moment” with your family. Life threatening or not, your decisions have the power to affect how your person lives day to day and you’ll be left to live with those decisions. If you are making medical decisions for someone who values quality of life (especially if they are living with dementia) and you are making decisions as a group, you need 2 things. One, a process for how you will logistically make decisions and two, a plan for those decisions AHEAD of time. This is what I’m teaching families of people living with dementia online. I’ve got a live event coming up later this week to help kick off a family conversation. Stay tuned for details! #AdvanceCarePlanning #DementiaCaregiver #BestAdvice #PhysicianEducator
