The Northrop X-4 Bantam: It was the smallest of the X-planes and flew from 1948-1954. Its objective was to explore the transonic regions of flight. Also, it studied flight sans a horizontal stabilizer.

KJ-700 AEW still "in green config" undergoing "taxi test". Its the latest in the PLAAF sensor fleet, manufactured by Shanxi Aerospace with mission module & radar from CETC. Analyst believe, it has incorporated some of the "lesson learned" from ongoing the Russo-Ukraine War. It features an L-Band main radar but also visible two additional modification:- 1) Side Looking Airborne Radar on the fuselage. 2) Chin mounted SAR. These two new additions would distinguish this KJ-700 from other AEW in PLAAF inventory. PLAAF..... adapt, improvise...move on...

The SR-71 blackbird was a high altitude, high speed, reconnaissance aircraft developed by hashtag #lockheedmartin hashtag #Skunkworks, and is one of the most famous aircraft in aerospace history. It was so revolutionary for its time that its engineers had to utilize never-before-used materials in its manufacture and develop new methods to maintain and sustain the aircraft to perform its role of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance over hostile territory. I recently had the opportunity to visit its predecessor, the A-12 at the hashtag #SanDiego hashtag #airandspace hashtag #Museum. In this first of at least three analyses on the SR-71, we’ll look at the aircraft as a whole, the revolutionary techniques and engineering used in its manufacture, and how this amazing aircraft was among the first to implement aspects of radar cross section reduction, or stealth.

🕹🛩🇪🇸 Airbus has signed a contract with the Spanish Ministerio de Defensa for the development and acquisition of #SIRTAP, a High Performance Tactical #UAS that will reinforce the tactical capabilities of the Ejercito de Tierra and the Ejército del Aire y del Espacio. This contract includes a total of 9️⃣ systems, each consisting of 3️⃣ #UnmannedAerialVehicles and 1️⃣ #GroundControl Station. Furthermore, 2️⃣ #simulators will be supplied to train the Spanish Armed Forces. “This new technological milestone in the tactical #UAS segment together with the Spanish #MinistryofDefence, will reinforce #nationalsovereignty. SIRTAP will be fully developed in #Spain, integrating national capabilities. However, thanks to its versatility and the use of ITAR-free components, we also expect it to play a key role on the international market,” said Jean-Brice Dumont, Head of #MilitaryAirSystems at Airbus Defence and Space. SIRTAP, with a payload of more than 150kgs, has been designed for advanced #surveillance, #intelligence and #reconnaissance missions, both over land and at sea. A range of more than 2,000km and an endurance of more than 20 hours will provide high flexibility and reactivity, allowing for day and night operations in the most demanding environments. The system will be certified to fly in segregated airspace. In the future, this tactical UAS will be able to operate jointly with other platforms to be integrated into a #SystemofSystems. The development of SIRTAP will bring the national industry key experience and competences in the field of #RemoteCarriers for #FCAS. First flight of the SIRTAP prototype is expected to take place in 2025.

The B-21 Raider, the recently unveiled Northrop Grumman aircraft, highlights the changes coming to the aviation industry over the next 20 years, which is good for the environment! The tail-less plane, the flying wing or blended wing, shows aviation is moving away from the old, tube and wing model. The new designs are thought to have fuel efficiency savings of between 20 - 50%. Where to next? Ramjets and Scramjets, like the Lockheed Martin SR-72. Imagine the above fuel savings with hyper velocity (mach 5 i.e. 6,174km per hour). Flight times between Melbourne and Los Angeles, under 3 hours. When? Not soon. The military are yet to have active units using this technology, but they are in the wings.
