Today, DP World celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Agri Terminals facility at Jebel Ali Port, kicking off a transformative journey to enhance food security in the UAE. In collaboration with Adroit Overseas Canada and Al Amir Foods, DP World will invest AED550 million (US$150 million) to construct the state-of-the-art Agri Terminals complex, specializing in storing and processing various agricultural products like pulses, grains, corn, and soybeans. Leveraging DP World’s innovative infrastructure, including pneumatic ship unloaders and advanced conveying equipment, the facility aims to fortify the UAE's food supply chain, aligning with the National Food Security Strategy 2051 and reinforcing Dubai's role in global food trade. The first phase of the project, scheduled for completion in early 2025, underscores DP World's commitment to bolstering food security while solidifying Dubai's pivotal position in global trade. Jebel Ali Port, handling around 73 percent of the UAE's food and beverage trade by value, significantly contributes to the nation's food security program. Starting in 2024, the Etihad Mills project in Babylon will produce 1 million tonnes of double-zero flour annually, significantly boosting local food production. Additionally, the expanded sugar plant now produces 6,000 tonnes of sugar per day, enhancing the country's food security. The International Islamic Food Processing Association (IFPA) supports these initiatives by fostering collaboration, providing technical expertise, and promoting innovative solutions. Through these efforts, IFPA is dedicated to ensuring sustainable agricultural practices and improving food security across Iraq and the region. Dubai to Develop World's Largest Logistics Hub for Food Trade Shipping Arabia, July 12, 2024 — In a landmark initiative to bolster the UAE’s food trade infrastructure, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed witnessed the signing of an agreement between Dubai Municipality and DP World to develop the world's largest logistics area dedicated to food trade, vegetables, and fruits. The agreement, aimed at connecting the new logistics hub with global markets, will double the size of the current vegetable and fruit market managed by DP World. This strategic development is set to enhance Dubai's position as a key player in global trade and food security. Sheikh Maktoum emphasized that the initiative, guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the oversight of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, aims to provide advanced infrastructure and facilities built to the latest specifications and best standards. This project will create greater commercial and investment opportunities for investors, support the UAE’s food security strategy, and establish Dubai as a premier destination for markets and re-export operations across various sectors. In line with these developments, last March saw the launch of the "Dubai Farms" program by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council, and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Development and Citizens Affairs. This program, part of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, is designed to support local farmers with productive agricultural projects, providing a comprehensive package of services and facilities. Dubai is set to establish the world's largest food trading logistics center, as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Ruler of Dubai, announced the creation of the Logistics Hub for Foodstuffs, Fruit, and Vegetable Trade. The agreement was signed between Dubai Municipality and DP World to double the current size of the fruit and vegetable market, which DP World will develop and manage, connecting it to international markets.
