New research from the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF), a Brussels-based advocacy group, has confirmed that if a city has more bike lanes, more people will cycle. The results will give campaigners and urban planners a substantial footing to argue for more cycling infrastructure in towns and cities around the world. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eCzXNS24

Collaborating with WeRideAustralia and Better Streets, AITPM took Lee Waters MS and Phil Jones to Canberra to speak to our nation's politicians and leading industry bodies about the need to change our approach to transport if we have any hope of meeting our emission targets and addressing catastrophic climate change. #transport #netzero #dercarbonisingtransport #climatechange
“For 70 years we’ve made jumping in a car the easiest way of getting around and other modes of transport more difficult. We’ve created friction, and until we make active travel and sustainable transport the easy, obvious everyday choice for ordinary people, then we will fail.” Welsh MP Lee Waters MS addressed Parliament recently on changes he led in Wales. The event was hosted by the Friends of Cycling and organised by WeRide with the support of AITPM - Leadership in Traffic and Transport and Better Streets. For full videos see https://lnkd.in/gcdehmPF

Unified Representation for All Mountain Bikers in Austria At the IMBA Europe Summit, the keynote "4 pillars of a MTB strategy for Austria" highlighted the essential role of community in the mountain biking strategy for Austria. The "Community" pillar focuses on creating a strong, united, and representative mountain biking community. By consolidating all mountain bike clubs under the umbrella of "IMBA-Austria", we not only leverage synergies but also strengthen our advocacy efforts. A central contact point is established, serving as a communication hub, coordinating events and initiatives, and amplifying the community's voice to policymakers and the public. Our goal is to establish a representation for all mountain bikers in Austria, regardless of skill level or age, from children to grandparents. A special focus of our strategy is on professional training for local trail builders, conducted within the framework of the DIRTT.eu Project and the ITRS (International Trail Rating System). This international training initiative aims to enhance local trail building skills, thereby creating sustainable and safer mountain bike trails right at our doorstep. #MTBCommunity #SustainableTrails #IMBAEurope #mtbkongress #thinkausterity #thinknature

Today marks my 8th race with NYRR this year. Each race brings its own highlights that keep me motivated. For today’s run: 1. Inspiring Encounter: At one point, someone bumped into me and apologized. I didn’t turn around immediately, just waved it off, as bumping into others is commonplace in races. When I did turn, I noticed he only had half of his right arm, which explained why he couldn’t control his swings. I felt a mix of gratitude and empathy. 2. Rainy Challenge: The race took place in heavy rain, with water pouring down like cats and dogs. My shoes made a lot of squeaking noise, and I was soaking wet—beyond wet, actually. However, the temperature in the 80s was much better than the usual 90-100 degrees. Additionally, running alongside so many people made the power of community palpable. 3. Smooth Logistics: Dropping off and picking up my bag was a breeze! The volunteers were amazing, fast, and professionally organized. I appreciated the great efficiency of the NYRR team and the runners, whose day jobs likely contribute to efficiency for the human race. For a moment, I felt proud to be part of this community. The distance for today’s race was too short and the incremental weather made it unlikely a PB, in other words, like many things, it is likely lost in memory lane - however, those highlights would stay with me for a long time, and continue to motivate me and keep me going.

Only 20 people have ever made it to the end of the #BarkleyMarathon since it was extended to 100 miles in 1986, this year Jasmin Paris was the first woman in history to finish it. But what makes this race special? How to enter is shrouded in mystery, as there is no website or social media for the event. All that is known is that to enter a runner must - write a motivational letter to Lazarus (founder and inventor of the race) ✍️ - if you are selected among the 40 participants you have to pay $1.60 💰 - if you are a first time participant you have to bring a number plate from your home country 🚗 - if you are a veteran you must bring a packet of cigarettes as a gift 🚬 The race consists of a 160 km route divided into 5 laps and 18,000 metres of elevation gain, to be completed in 60 hours. ⏱️ No mobile phones or GPS equipment may be used, only a map and a digital watch. To prove the completion of each lap, the runner must tear out a page from each book scattered at various points along the route. It is extremely motivating and inspiring to see these examples of success, of how much people want to test themselves and take risks, especially in a sporting enviroment where it is increasingly difficult to emerge as a professional, especially in sports that struggle to find the space they deserve in the media and beyond. Jasmin's goal, reached 39 seconds before the cut-off time, makes us reflect on how 'no one has ever done it before' with the right approach and preparation can turn into a success story, opening the door to others, who probably would never have existed without this feat. #sportmaketheworldbetter
Jasmin Paris is now one of only 20 people to have ever finished the 100-mile race since it first began in 1986.

News Update: Team Ocean extend their ‘Aquawareness’ mission - From Summit to Sea and Sea to Summit As a team of four adventurers, it is our mission to raise awareness for clean and scarce (drinking) water and that's why we are rowing the Pacific Ocean. Our campaign #Aquawareness recently kicked off and we are receiving a lot of positive reactions from our partners and our greater network. For us, the success of this mission is only realised when we make the greatest of impact together, and that is why we have decided to extend this rowing expedition into next year. Most interestingly we are in talks with a title sponsor who totally embrace this longer term mission and the impact it will create. This year we will be planning a rowing expedition in Europe. The idea is to row from the mountains in Switzerland (where glaciers will have disappeared by 2040, impacting our rivers and our freshwater supplies) via the Rhine towards the North Sea. And in 2025 we will pursue our original expedition of rowing 4,500 km from California to Hawaii, topped by a climb to the highest mountain, Mount Kea. So our expedition spans from Summit to Sea in Europe, and from Sea to Summit in the deepest ocean ...all connected by water. Our vital source of life. This new and exciting plan provides more opportunities to increase our water awareness theme together with our partners and sponsors. It will foster a larger community around ‘water’ that will cover more European countries and provides an exciting foundation for more team training. At the same time, it also gives Wilco time to recover from his shoulder injury 🙂 Our shore team (of 15 professionals), all our partners and sponsors are excited to make this a big success. We trust that you’ll continue to support us in this journey too. Let's embrace this mission together! #Aquawareness Wilco Van Rooijen Sara Eenhoorn Bela Evers Bram Mayer

Have you explore the Participation Deep Dive in the SIA Member Portal yet? This report takes a closer look at Black, Asian and Hispanic participants across ski, snowboard and cross-country skiing by age and race/ethnicity. Some cool insights emerge when you look at last year’s (2022-2023) snow sports data that can help inform business decisions and future growth opportunities. For example, take a look at which age group the majority of Black, Asian and Hispanic skiers, snowboarders, and cross-country skiers fall into. You can also see that the participation rate for Asians is on par with the white, non-hispanic population. This data is available to members only. Not a member yet?
