For those who don’t know what AON s are, they have played a large part in the destruction of Children’s Disability Services. The lack of joint up thinking regarding the rollout of Progressing Children’s Services and the AONs, the shambles of PTA mean that Children’s Disability Network Teams are understaffed, even though they are free from the embargo, because of the, in my opinion, unsafe work environment. And whats not factored in to these press releases is that for ever report completed, families are also entitled to a yearly review of needs and have to be given a date when their child’s intervention will start. ( Could someone do the compound interest on that?) As to dates of intervention, privately done AON reports are specifying individual services, eg SLT, OT, Psy etc when the new PDS model is that services are provided by teams. ( no joint up thinking) Not that it matters as most of the start dates will either be best guesses, or made up pushing intervention out years in the hopes posts will be filled. Simon and Anne know all of this, and considering the empty posts 12m is hardly a generous gift. But it will pour petrol on the explosion in private practice and suck more professionals into that area, doing assessments. Why can’t we stop pathologising childhood purely because the government has painted itself into a legal corner, is using clinicians to gatekeep resources and aren’t brave enough to recognise their mistakes. When it comes to Children’s Disability someone should look at who has benefited financially over the years from the mess thats been created. Sadly its not the children and families. Follow the money.
Today we took a number of steps to improve access to Assessments of Needs for children with a disability and their families. Almost €12 million will now be spent to provide thousands more assessments. We have much more to do in this area but this is an important step

Let's start here: What is Family Centered Treatment (FCT)? FCT is an evidence-based trauma treatment model of home-based family therapy. We focus on holistic, family-derived goals related to family functioning, preservation, permanency, and reunification. FCT supports families facing challenges like child welfare involvement, mental health struggles, substance abuse, developmental disabilities, and juvenile justice issues. Through a 4-phase approach, families engage in activities that restore safety, belonging, and connection by building on their strengths. At the end of the day, our goal is summed up in four words: Keeping Arkansas Families Together.

This is a masterclass in the effective *systems framing* that should underpin the vast majority of social impact communications. Most people resist solutions to social problems out of an individualist "bad apples" frame, which tees up punishment as the logical (though least effective) solution. If we talk instead (in this case) about the obstacles to parenting that lead to childhood adversity, we tee up systems solutions for strengthening families--which actually work. One of the most effective things we can do as social impact communicators (cue broken record:) is system-framing the problem. #CommsForGood #Nonprofit #SocialImpactCommunications FrameWorks Institute The Communications Network
One thing we can do this National #ChildAbuse Prevention Month is commit to bringing an asset frame to the way we talk about the issue. Advocating for "family strengthening" as the solution to "childhood adversity" emphasizes parental aspirations -- and real solutions! #EveryChildEveryState https://lnkd.in/d5p8kT3P
