Delighted to see our research highlighted in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases' Cardiorenal Special Collection. https://lnkd.in/gRAa9v8J In this review we systematically define the increased risk of incident atrial fibrillation (AF) as kidney function decreases and as albuminuria increases. Chronic kidney disease has been underrecognised as a risk factor for AF meaning that patients with CKD are underrepresented in screening studies, resulting in underestimation of the true global prevalence of AF. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death for women worldwide.The risk of CVD in women is still underestimated by society, including women themselves, and the medical community. Historically women have been under-represented in CVD clinical trials due to the mistaken belief that this disease mostly affects men. General clinical trial practice that is one size-fits-all and fails to stratify trials according to sex and age must be revised in order to include a robust risk/benefit analysis for both sexes. https://lnkd.in/eveeXPSy

Planning for an uncertain future in progressive neurological disease: a qualitative study of patient and family decision-making with a focus on eating and drinking Dysphagia and other eating and drinking difficulties are common in progressive neurological diseases. Mealtimes can become a major source of difficulty and anxiety for patients and their families. Decisions about eating, drinking and care can become challenging as disease progresses, and the person in question loses the capacity to participate in decisions about their own care. https://lnkd.in/geVP2pnJ

Use Heart for action 💙 It is time that cardiovascular disease is taken seriously. The goal of this World Heart Day does not stop today, but will span over the next two years to not only raise awareness but also empower individual and global action to improve the situation of current and future individuals with cardiovascular problems.
