If you're unfamiliar with the Community Schools Model, which puts communities at the heart of education and schooling, or the work of Communities In Schools, the organization I work with which has been a beacon, a model and an active advocate of these ideals for decades, then start with this article. Now is the best time to educate ourselves about the benefits of this educational model so that we can advocate for policies and budgets that support this model of schooling during the current GA session and beyond! Reach out if you have questions! I love to share about the work we do! https://lnkd.in/eW8ukiJt
"A highly successful organization offering integrated student services is Communities In Schools. CIS is a national nonprofit that is one piece of the larger Community Schools puzzle. While many nonprofit providers offer valuable programming outside the traditional school day, significant and life changing support also occurs during the school day through organizations like CIS." Thank you Forbes for highlighting the work the work of CIS and sharing the perspectives of Communities In Schools of Richmond president and CEO Harold Fitrer and CIS Founder and CIS-VA vice chair Bill Milliken. Milestones on the road to healing & justice! We celebrate the positive impact we see in the lives of those we serve. Donors play an important part in making these journeys possible. At Kids Alive, all efforts are steered toward our four global goals: 🌎 Enjoy A vibrant, Life-Changing Relationship with God: Our surveys show that a young adult from a KAI school is 6x more likely to be involved in church than the community. 🌎 Experience Emotional & Physical Well-Being: KAI invests over 11,700 hours annually in biblical-based, evidence-based therapy from licensed therapists. 🌎 Are equipped for a life of independence and service: KAI students are 3x more likely to attend high school than children attending public schools in the same area. 🌎 Live life in family and community, free of fear and violence: A KAI represented child is 10x more likely to see their abuser arrested & sentenced than the general public. "Spreading Hope, One Bicycle at a Time" 🚲💫 Hey LinkedIn community! 👋 I came across this incredibly inspiring story that warmed my heart and restored my faith in humanity. Meet a daily laborer with a heart of gold. Despite facing his own challenges, he selflessly donated 11 bicycles to students who had to walk over 4 kilometers to school every day. Let that sink in for a moment. In a world where it's easy to get caught up in our own struggles, he chose to make a difference in the lives of others. His act of kindness not only alleviates the physical burden of long walks but also opens doors to education and opportunity for these students. It's a powerful reminder that compassion knows no boundaries and that even the smallest gestures can have a ripple effect of positivity. His selflessness serves as a beacon of hope, showing us all the impact we can make when we choose empathy and generosity. Let's take a moment to celebrate extraordinary kindness and reflect on how we can pay it forward in our own communities. Whether it's through acts of service, donations, or simply spreading kindness, each of us has the power to make a difference. Together, let's create a world where compassion reigns supreme. Share in the comments how this story resonates with you or tag someone who inspires you to be more giving. Let's keep the spirit of generosity alive and make the world a brighter place, one act of kindness at a time. 💖✨ #KindnessMatters #CommunityImpact #Inspiration"

I support leaders as an author, communicator, strategic consultant, and leadership partner gavinadams.com
FOR PASTORS: Is your church facing a generosity crisis? You're not alone. Across the country, churches are grappling with declining donations, and it’s a trend that’s hard to ignore. Understanding the root causes is essential. From economic pressures to generational shifts, there are many reasons why people are giving less. But here’s something that might surprise you: Many people still see themselves as generous. They’re just giving differently. As church leaders, we need to acknowledge this shift and respond in ways that resonate with our congregations. It’s not just about asking for more; it’s about teaching the importance of financial discipleship and cultivating a lifestyle of generosity. Tithing has always been a cornerstone of biblical stewardship, but how we teach it today matters more than ever. We need to move beyond the traditional approaches and start addressing the real issues—like trust, relevance, and the changing definitions of generosity. If you’re ready to take action, start by recommitting to growing disciples, not just raising funds. Your church’s future might depend on it.

Little Free Library in Wasco: made by the community, for the community By: Sam Hoyle Posted at 5:18 PM, Jul 24, 2024, www.turnto23.com City of Wasco, California. 23ABC (KERO-TV) — Devin Lowe, a recent Wasco High School grad, is chasing his Eagle Scout honors. As part of the process, he opted to do his service project by constructing a Little Free Library for the public to use. 23ABC caught up with Lowe in front of his newly minted Little Free Library and noted he bounced around a few ideas before choosing to construct the library. Lowe said his goal was to provide access to #literature in his community, where library hours are limited and other factors could prohibit someone from visiting the library. Margret Aldrich, Director of Communications for the LFL #Nonprofit, said the bulk of #California's nearly 8,000 #library boxes can be found in metropolitan settings, and she said the group always finds it exciting to see one pop up in a rural community. According to the Nonprofit's website, prior to Lowe constructing his, there's only one Little Free Library in Wasco. Ian Anderson, MPA, Executive Director for the KERN LITERACY COUNCIL applauded the effort by Lowe to increase access to books, saying something like this project reduces the barrier to entry for people all around the area. full story: https://lnkd.in/gmtJ_yB3 #KernLiteracyCouncil empowers Kern County with #AdultLiteracy, #FamilyLiteracy, #ESLClasses, and #WorkplaceLiteracy. Every interaction can teach you valuable lessons you can carry forward into other areas of your life. Daniel Cakora here again to share some reflections. Vendavo offers 16 hours of annual paid volunteer time to each employee so we can all give back to causes that matter to us. But this is something my family does outside of that. This year I volunteered for the Jackson Chance Foundation, and this one really hit home for me. Jackson Chance Foundation assists families with NICU-bound children by covering parking fees. My son spent a significant amount of time in the NICU, so I know what that’s like. Not having to worry about expensive parking fees during such a trying time was a weight off our shoulders for my wife and me. It gave us the freedom to visit our son, step away to run errands, and come back to spend more time with him – all without additional financial stress layered atop everything else. This cause means so much to us that we set aside money on birthdays and the anniversary of our son’s “come home day” to make contributions. There are little lessons like that everywhere. Openings for solutions that can help make others’ days a little less stressful or a little easier. Opportunities that matter a lot to the people on the other end of the experience. As Benjamin Franklin said, “When you’re good to others, you’re best to yourself.” https://lnkd.in/g547y64Z #vendavo #employeetakeover #jacksonchance #jcf

Hey folks! I need your help to wish my friends Blind Beginnings a sweet 16! Blind Beginnings was founded by Shawn Marsolais who encourages a limitless philosophy in all they do. "Limitless is about educating the public about the abilities and potential of children and youth who are blind or partially sighted. The idea that the only limitations that exist for these BC youth are the ones that society places on them is crucial to understand in order to fully embrace equity and inclusion in all aspects." Recently I was gifted the opportunity to spend time with two of their team members Rob Mineault and Lia Dicicco and it was incredible to see how their limitless philosophy is embedded in the essential and critical education programs and services they provide for children and youth in BC who are blind or partially sighted. If, like me, you don't have lived experience with being blind or partially sighted, then you and I need to educate ourselves on in how to create spaces that are welcome for folks who are. How we do that is by activating our learning to expand our understanding and knowledge to be better employers, colleagues, friends and allies. And before we get stuck in the "but where do we start" zone, we can skip directly to being activated in action as Blind Beginnings has ample ways to get our learning activated. As example, here is a non-exhaustive list of what activated action looks like: Follow Blind Beginnings! Book a Blindness 101 Workshop! https://lnkd.in/gwTH4jdb Listen to the Limitless podcast! https://lnkd.in/gfyr4JSq Read the Limitless blog! https://lnkd.in/g7e_ig6M Tell our networks about Blind Beginnings! Let's be activated action takers and give Blind Beginnings a fantastically impactful sweet 16 birthday celebration! #BlindBeginnings #DEI #BlindnessAwareness
Blind Beginnings is 16! Blind Beginnings was first formed as a Society on this day, February 25th, 2008. Since then, the organization and its team has been working tirelessly on supporting and inspiring children and youth who are blind or partially sighted. With the help of our many supporters, donors, and team members (past and present), Blind Beginnings has grown and evolved as an organization, spreading awareness about the capabilities of children and youth who are blind or partially sighted while providing learning, support, and services to their entire families. We want to take this opportunity on this very special day to give a huge thank you to all of you who have supported us or been involved with us over the past 16 years – we couldn’t have done it without you. Today’s anniversary celebration belongs to every one of you as well. You can learn a bit more about the backstory of the founding of Blind Beginnings below: https://lnkd.in/dBrRyepS #HappyAnniversary #SixteenCandles #BlindBeginnings
