Considering Human Antifragility in the Social-Spatial-Temporal City by Dr Sam Conrad Joyce At DP’s upcoming #DesignFUTURE Conference, Dr Joyce questions how architecture adapts and thrives beyond its initial purpose, challenging us to see architecture not as a solution, but a #catalyst for new opportunities and behaviours. His presentation will delve into methods for capturing and analysing the unplanned activities that arise once buildings and spaces come to life. By leveraging data-driven approaches, he explores how #thoughtfuldesign can transform challenges, such as those posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, into learning experiences that prove the #resiliency and #antifragility of our environments. My thanks to the NSW Architects Registration Board and Architects Registration Board of Victoria for the opportunity to participate in the Deep Dive Report on Systemic Risks in the Australian Architecture Sector, which identifies systemic risks in the Australian architecture sector that affect the entire industry. Without effective action, these risks could lead to widespread negative outcomes. Given their systemic nature, addressing these risks requires a coordinated response involving not only the NSW ARB and ARBV, but also industry bodies, education providers, research institutions and other government agencies. The Deep Dive Report offers recommendations so that outcomes can be improved for architects, their clients, users of architectural services and the public.
