Key government departments are failing to help victims of gender-based violence. The report's key results underscore the absence of necessary steps by SAPS to respond to GBV events, since many police stations lack victim-friendly rooms. As a medical association dedicated to the health and well-being of all South Africans, we understand the profound impact that GBV has on physical and mental health. We stand in solidarity with all victims of gender-based violence and call on the government to prioritse the safety and support of GBV victims. Tune in to watch your girl and other key experts on National TV talk about Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Cameroon. GBV remains one of the most underreported pandemics in Cameroon. It trends few days in a month, but things quickly go back to normal after hours. Many do not see actions taken against perpetrators of abuse thus this translate to a lack of safety and security for victims to speak up and get the help they deserve. Addressing GBV requires good health systems, a well installed judiciary system, safe houses and a non-corrupt legal system etc. GBV response need a lot of investment, with the limited funds grassroots organizations can access, their interventions are mostly temporary with limited reach. All our trust and hopes to properly and intentionally respond to abuse is on the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the family #minproffcameroun who is one of the ministries with the lowest budget. The World Bank data reveals that over 70% of Lebanon's population now experiences multidimensional poverty, highlighting the failures of means-tested social security programs that cover only 20% of the population. This joint statement by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the Arab Reform Initiative, within the Global Campaign for the Right to Social Security, calls for a shift from narrow targeting to universal social security programs. #grrf Special Day Update 4 June- International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression Every year on 4 June, The United Nation's (UN) International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is observed to raise awareness about the children who have suffered a lot throughout the world and are victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse. It is a sad reality that in situations where armed conflict breaks out, it is the most vulnerable members of societies – namely children, who are most affected by the consequences of war. The six most common violations are recruitment and use of children in war, killing, sexual violence, abduction, attacks on schools and hospitals, and denial of humanitarian access. On this day UN affirms the commitment to protect the rights of children. It was established on 19 August 1982. Originally focused on victims of the 1982 Lebanon War, its purpose expanded to ‘acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse. This day affirms the UN's commitment to protect the rights of children.’ In recent years, the number of violations perpetrated against children have, in many conflict zones, increased. More needs to be done to protect the 250 million children living in countries and areas affected by conflict. More must be done to protect children from targeting by violent extremists, to promote international humanitarian and human rights law, and to ensure accountability for violations of the rights of children. The 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development provides us with the universal master plan to secure a better future for children. The new agenda includes for the first time a specific target (16.2) to end all forms of violence against children, and ending the abuse, neglect and exploitation of children is mainstreamed across several other violence-related targets. #grrf #children #victim #aggression #un #sdg #people #linkedin

We ALL need to understand what we mean when discussing domestic violence and other sensitive matters. Kgosi Somolekae believes we should INVEST IN MEN AND BOYS; in bringing them to the table and understanding how they receive and interpret the information surrounding GBV, to help us better understand how to prevent it. During a webinar launch via Zoom, attended by government representatives, civil society organizations, and media outlets, the Rasd Coalition unveiled a sobering report detailing six significant violations against children from April 2022 to December 2023. This report documents 127 violation cases across 13 Yemeni governorates, encompassing atrocities such as killing or maiming, sexual violence, abduction, recruitment, attacks on schools, and denial of humanitarian aid access. Human trafficking and modern-day slavery are global issues affecting countless lives, with very few countries remaining untouched. Every year on July 30th, the United Nations observes World Day Against Trafficking in Persons to raise awareness and strengthen efforts to prevent these heinous crimes. Today, July 30th, marks the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a day designated by the United Nations to raise awareness about the serious issue of human trafficking. This year's theme, "Leave no child in the fight against human trafficking," resonates deeply in Nigeria, where thousands of children are vulnerable to trafficking. Nigeria is a source and transit country for human trafficking. Children are trafficked within the country, as well as to other countries in Africa and beyond. They are forced into domestic servitude, sexual exploitation, and forced labour. In 2022, NAPTIP 1,440 reported cases; 412 were external trafficking cases and 1,028 internal trafficking cases. They rescued and received 2,743 victims out of which 1,459 were female adults; 688 Female children; 363 Male adults; and 233 Male children. Victims of inward trafficking were 45; returned victims from outside Nigeria were 251 and Intercepted victims from various border points were 1,484. However, this number is just the tip of the iceberg, as many cases go unreported. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), there are an estimated 40.3 million victims of modern slavery worldwide, with the majority being women and girls. Children are trafficked for various purposes, including forced labour, sexual exploitation, and organ removal. On this World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the Nigerian government, civil society, and individuals need to work together to leave no child in the fight against human trafficking. We must support anti-trafficking efforts, provide services and support to victims, and raise awareness about the issue. Let us join hands to create a Nigeria where all children can grow up safe and free from exploitation.
