AGREEMENT: INVL Baltic Sea Growth Fund, the leading #private #equity #fund in the Baltic States, together with its portfolio company Eco Baltia, the largest #wastemanagement and #recycling group in the Baltics, announces the signing of an agreement to acquire a 70% stake in the largest Polish PVC windows recycler, Metal-Plast. The #transaction is expected to close in Q4 2023, subject to receiving permission from the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection as well as fulfilling other conditions precedent. Its great to be back in Singapore and see the sovereign wealth funds GIC and Temasek team up to invest in Sweden-based H2 Green Steel, raising €1.5 billion in equity to build the world’s first green steel plant – large-scale green steel plant and Europe first giga-scale electrolyzer. In the largest private placement in Europe this year, H2 Green Steel has raised about €1.5 billion in equity from an investor group led by Altor, GIC, Hy24 and Just Climate. The round will finance the world’s first large-scale green steel plant and Europe’s first giga-scale electrolyzer. Birmingham spinout Salinity Solutions has secured a GBP £1 million initial investment from SQM Lithium Ventures to fund the next stage of its growth. SQM Lithium Ventures, in return, will take ownership of a minority stake in the company, with the option to acquire additional equity in the future.   Salinity Solutions formed as a spinout of the University of Birmingham in April 2021, following 10 years of research and development at Aston University and the University of Birmingham under the supervision of Professor Philip Davies. HyBatch™, its ground-breaking batch reverse osmosis water treatment technology – the first in the world to be manufactured commercially – was created to dramatically reduce the environmental impact of water treatment. The technology uses less energy, purifies a higher amount of wastewater, generates less waste, and is more compact and portable than traditional reverse osmosis systems. The first of Salinity Solutions' five registered patents has been approved in the European Union, China and the United States. Founder Tim Naughton secured an Innovate UK iCURE grant and seed investment from Clean Engineering, followed by two oversubscribed crowdfunding campaigns on Crowdcube. Existing investors, including the University of Birmingham, have added to this investment round over the last six months, investing over £960,000 alongside SQM, providing a total of £1.96m in new funding for the company. #CA-based Furno Materials Secures an #Investment from O’Shaughnessy Ventures. The deal’s total value was not made public. The money will be used by the company to grow both its operations and its clientele. Founded by Gurinder Nagra in 2020, Furno constructs #modular cement facilities that require less area, less energy, and a lower carbon #footprint than conventional plants. Rather than using coal, its modular cement facilities #consume natural gas. As a result, they can be heated and cooled more #effectively and emit less carbon dioxide than #conventional cement plants. The company’s plants are #portable and need little space, making them perfect for #construction in developing countries. They are made to fit within shipping containers. Another productive summer with Invalda INVL and, as a result, 2nd Polish deal incoming to my #privateequity collection 🏆 Altogether with our portfolio company Eco Baltia we agreed to acquire the largest Polish PVC recycler Metal-Plast. It will become our 2nd circular economy #investment play in portfolio. Some facts about the company: 🟢 Metal-Plast is specializing in PVC #recycling from windows and door systems. 🟢 Company is carbon negative: 1 tonne of recycled PVC = 2 tonnes of saved CO2 emissions. Nota bene: the most effective way to increase the energy efficiency of buildings is to replace old windows. As consequence, numerous tailwinds are blowing in favour of PVC recycling industry: 🟢 `Fit for 55` EU regulatory package that aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 55% until 2030 🟢 `Clean air` building renovation program in Poland (€23.2bn) 🟢 Incoming renovation boom in whole Europe financed by EU's national recovery plans (€57bn per year) 🟢 Huge underlying - Polish window manufacturing industry (biggest in Europe) with pledges from manufacturers to use recycled content. Stockholm’s H2 Green Steel has announced securing over €4.7B in funding to establish the world’s first large-scale green steel plant in Boden, Sweden. The project, totaling €6.5B in funding, includes €4.2B in debt financing from a consortium of 20 lenders, highlighted by BNP Paribas and the European Investment Bank (EIB), €300M in equity from investors, and a €250M grant from the EU Innovation Fund.
