With communities at the center, innovation prototypes can and should inform #ai #collectiveintelligence #cea research and learning. Nepal Red Cross and Cameroon Red Cross partnered with IFRC Solferino Academy Nesta and UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub in 2021/2022. Humanitarian Leadership Academy launched a short course on "Community Collective Intelligence" building on this important area. (The free registration link and our blog summary are in the comments). We share our top lessons learned /reaffirmed: 1. Engage volunteers in the design of the proposal and ensure feedback loops throughout the whole process. 2. Community values and culture /context shape the technology success. 3. Digital and data infrastructure barriers and usage divides accompanied by translation of tools and processes impact the full potential of emerging tech. If we aim for # AI and #collectiveintelligence to support #communityengagement #cea #localization, then we must concurrently address the systematic issues that continue to leave people behind. Thus, we must be guided by the super smart local communities that are already exploring how to make it happen.

Sometimes you come across a new-to-you concept that is too good not to share. Sure, #AI is getting all the air time - well this note from Heather Leson caught me. #CollectiveIntelligence is something we’ve been building on at Communiti Labs, without even knowing the term existed. For engagement practitioners running into this term for the first time, collective intelligence is created when people work together, often with the help of technology, to mobilise a wider range of information, ideas and insights to address a social challenge. Here are some key point from Nesta on how you might integrate this into your practice: 💡 Increase the diversity of the people you involve and the opinions you listen to. 💡Enable people to contribute view and ideas independently and freely. 💡Bring together different types of data to unlock fresh insights. 💡Be citizen-centred: think data empowerment, not data extraction. A few really simple ideas that might make a big impact on project delivery and outcomes in #CommunityEngagement. 𝑨𝙡𝒍-𝑾𝙤𝒎𝙚𝒏 𝑨𝙄 𝙋𝒉𝘿 𝙋𝒓𝙤𝒈𝙧𝒂𝙢 𝙇𝒂𝙪𝒏𝙘𝒉𝙚𝒔 𝒊𝙣 𝘼𝒇𝙧𝒊𝙘𝒂 An avant-garde Africa-Europe collaboration has initiated a program to train 700 African PhDs in artificial intelligence (AI) over the next decade. The inaugural cohort of this program will be exclusively composed of women, marking a significant step towards gender diversity in the field of AI research This initiative is led by Core AI, a research partnership that brings together universities from both Africa and Europe. The program aims to address the underrepresentation of women in AI and technology fields while simultaneously boosting Africa's capacity in AI research and development The Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence (CoRE) initiative, a partnership between the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, has been making strides in fostering joint research projects across various fields. This all-women AI PhD program represents a concrete step towards equitable partnerships in research and education between the two continents. It also contributes to addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through excellent research, education, capacity building, and innovation.
