📚 Expanding Perspective • As I continue my journey in the education sector, I’m reminded of the importance of seeking out diverse perspectives to truly understand the big picture. This week, I’m diving into the thought-provoking works of John Taylor Gatto, a former teacher and outspoken critic of the traditional education system. Gatto’s books, including Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling, The Underground History of American Education, and Weapons of Mass Instruction, challenge conventional ideas about education. He explores how standardized systems can stifle creativity and individuality, raising important questions about what education should really accomplish. While some consider his perspective controversial, it’s also an important lens through which to examine the system’s strengths and flaws.
