Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $750 million in funding selections for 52 projects across 24 states to dramatically reduce the cost of clean hydrogen and reinforce American leadership in the growing hydrogen industry. Plug has been selected for nine awards for Clean Hydrogen Electrolysis, Manufacturing, and Recycling Activities under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. “Congress has enacted these policies and enabled these programs to advance hydrogen and fuel cells as vital components of the United States’ energy and climate strategy. These highly competitive, cost-shared programs will advance Plug’s fuel cell and electrolyzer manufacturing capacities, create good paying jobs in New York, and fortify the region’s leadership in the national clean energy transition.” said Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug. Have you heard? Igor Stamenkovic, our Senior Vice President and General Manager of our Electrical Engineering Services and Systems, will take the keynote stage at the upcoming Reuters Event: Industrial Decarbonization 2024 in Pittsburgh on October 1, to speak about empowering industrial decarbonization through infrastructure strategies.

This is an important step. Once the forward-looking leaders at Peoples Natural Gas prove to themselves that they can deliver carbon-free hydrogen to virtually any gas customer, they will have a sustainable and growing market for natural gas that can see Peoples Natural Gas through the enegy transition and beyond. Initially, blending is ideal as it presents an immediate hydrogen market as the technology develops. However the long game is not blending; It is zero-carbon hydrogen to replace the 'black, grey and blue' hydrogen that industry currently consumes at the rate of approximately 100 million tonnes per year. Peoples Natural Gas will be able to deliver natural gas through conventional, existing systems and offer point of sale conversion to zero-carbon hydrogen; avoiding all the complexities of hydrogen storage and transport.
