Currently, the World Hydrogen Summit is taking place in #Rotterdam! The summit is the world’s biggest hydrogen event. To promote the development of a hydrogen market and associated infrastructure, it’s essential that the Netherlands and other countries work together, for instance on regulations, technology innovation, storing, infrastructure, stimulating supply and demand or building actual production facilities. The Netherlands aims to realize 500 MW electrolysis capacity by 2025, and between 3 and 4 GW by 2030. We are also following the developments in #Estonia with great interest, where for instance innovative electrolysers producer Stargate Hydrogen and leading fuel cells provider Elcogen are located. Furthermore, Dutch company Power2X is looking for opportunities to invest in a green methanol production plant in Estonia. Estonia has great potential for green energy surplus which in turn creates excellent preconditions for building a hydrogen economy. Estonia is also a country that has established the first cross nation hydrogen valley: Hydrogen Valley Estonia. The Netherlands is pursuing cooperation with a diverse range of countries with a view to facilitating contact between the private sector, government and knowledge institutions. We are on track to become the first country in northwestern Europe to have infrastructure in place for the large-scale import of hydrogen!

Luxembourg has launched Luxembourg Hydrogen Valley (LuxHyVal), a project that targets the potential production of green #hydrogen in Bascharage, south Luxembourg, in 2026. LuxHyVal is a collaborative effort of 17 partners from seven countries with the Universität Luxemburg as the main coordinator through Prof. Bradley Ladewig. The hydrogen ecosystem of LuxHyVal is expected to make an important contribution to #decarbonise the industrial hydrogen consumption of the country, using 100% renewable electricity to produce green hydrogen in Luxembourg. Enovos Luxembourg and LuxEnergie S.A., both subsidiaries of Encevo Group, intend to ensure the production of up to 1,750 kg of green hydrogen per day for use in industry and mobility by 2026, under implication of the engineering company Paul Wurth S.A., brand of SMS group. With an overall budget of 39 million euros, LuxHyVal is expected to be funded through 8 million euros from the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, a European Union public-private partnership supporting research and innovation in hydrogen #technologies, as well as contributions from the corporate partners, while pursuing further public and private funding opportunities. In a second stage, the expertise acquired should serve as a direct model for replicating valleys in Central (Czech Republic) and Eastern Europe (Ukraine). “We will need hydrogen to meet the EU #emission targets, and with LuxHyVal, we are trying to make concrete advances towards a #sustainable and cleaner future”, says Prof. Bradley Ladewig, holder of the Paul Wurth Chair in Energy Process Engineering and coordinator of the project. “Building large industrial infrastructure takes time and effort: we need to start now.” Stéphanie Obertin, Minister for #Digitalisation and Minister for #Research and Higher Education comments „This collaborative project involving the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), to produce green hydrogen locally fits in perfectly with two of the country’s four priority interdisciplinary research areas industrial and service transformation, and sustainable and responsible development.” LuxHyVal project Consortium includes Luxembourg-based partners together with University of Bordeaux, France; IZES gGmbH, Germany; R2M Solution, Spain; University of Chemistry and Technology VŠCHT Praha - UCT Prague, Czech Republic; King Danylo University (official) University, Ukraine, and University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. #heatprocessing

🚀🌿 The Evolution of Green Hydrogen Transport: Lessons from H2Sines.Rdam & the Emergence of LOHCs 🌿🚀 The H2Sines.Rdam project, aimed at leading the charge in green hydrogen transport from Portugal to the Netherlands, has reached its conclusion. Despite support from industry giants Engie and Shell and potential EU Innovation Fund backing, challenges including regulatory clarity, market readiness, and infrastructure have led to its cancellation in October 2023. The Liquid Hydrogen Challenge ❄️🚢 Transporting hydrogen in its liquid form has proven challenging: - High Liquefaction Costs 💸: The energy and expense required to cool hydrogen to -253°C are significant. - Complex Storage Needs 🧊: Maintaining such low temperatures to prevent hydrogen evaporation demands specialized facilities. - Scarce Shipping Options ⛴️: With limited vessels like Japan's Suiso Frontier available, logistical capacity is constrained. The Rise of LOHCs: A Promising Alternative 🌟🔋 In the face of these obstacles, Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHCs) offer a promising path forward: - Simplified Storage & Transport 🛢️🚚: LOHCs operate at ambient temperature and pressure, easing the logistical burden. - Enhanced Safety 🛡️: The inherent stability of LOHCs reduces risks associated with storage and transport. - Ready-to-Adapt Infrastructure 🏗️: Existing fuel infrastructure can be readily modified for LOHC use, offering a scalable solution. The Advantages of LOHCs 🌈💡 LOHCs represent a significant leap forward in making green hydrogen a practical and scalable energy solution. They provide a more adaptable, efficient, and safer method for hydrogen storage and transportation, marking a crucial development in the pursuit of sustainable energy. Forward Momentum 🌍💼 The end of the H2Sines.Rdam project signifies a pivotal moment for the green hydrogen industry, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions like LOHCs. As we continue to explore and develop these technologies, we pave the way for a more sustainable and efficient energy future. Let's engage in dialogue about the potential of LOHCs to transform the green hydrogen landscape. Share your thoughts on how we can leverage these advancements for a greener tomorrow. #GreenHydrogen #EnergyInnovation #LOHCs #SustainableEnergy #innovation #technology #hydrogen #Australia
