It will be good to give both universities in NI an opportunity engage with businesses and the public sector, which is a shame there is no representatives from QUB and UU.

#Mission1 mentoring session #2: Tackling challenges of fostering transparency and participation in cities
🌐 Dear #CC4DR members,
On Wednesday, 25 September 2024, 16:00–17:00 CEST, the City of Amsterdam and Barcelona City Council will hold a mentoring session on methods and practices to overcome the challenges faced by cities when organizing citizen participation on digitization topics.
Boosting the reliable use of technology in the public sector, whether to deliver public services or improve efficiency, requires considering citizens’ views. To include citizens as stakeholders, cities need to build a participatory local digital rights ecosystem that ensures equal information positions and facilitates inclusive methods of participation and debate. In doing so, cities face significant challenges that were identified in the first mentoring session.
In this second mentoring session, we will discuss about different methods and practices to address these challenges thus improving the process of citizens’ participation promoting responsible use of technology in the public sector. Through case presentation and interactive discussion, practitioners coming from different cities will share their experience and knowledge. We hope to learn from the attendees how to boost citizen debate around the use of digital technology in the public sector.
If you are a public official interested in attending the session, please do not hesitate to contact Tamilla Abdul-Aliyeva or Joan Batlle Montserrat (PhD).
⌚ Don't forget: Wednesday, 25 September 2024, 16:00–17:00 CEST.
In an unprecedented collaboration to address the UK’s digital skills crisis, we hosted the ChelTechne symposium at the Cheltenham Science Festival, in partnership with Cheltenham Festivals and supported by National Grid Electricity Distribution.
Thought leaders and industry experts from education, industry, and the third sector—including influential organisations like AQA, KPMG and BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT—united to forge a unified vision for the future of digital education. This landmark collaboration culminated in the "Mind the Gap" report, which outlines a comprehensive set of recommendations that will shape digital skills development in our nation.
The report will be presented to the Government, supported by a cross-sector promotion and advocacy campaign. We're proud to be part of this collective effort to empower the UK workforce, drive innovation, and ensure no one is left behind in the digital age.

We Are Celebrating International Open Access Week!🔓
What is Open Access Week?🤔
Open Access Week is a unique opportunity to unite global efforts toward open knowledge sharing, promoting policy changes, and addressing social issues worldwide. This event is celebrated globally by individuals, institutions, and organisations, guided by a global advisory committee that sets the theme each year.
This year's theme, "Community over Commercialisation," underscores the vital need for equitable access to research and knowledge. It highlights the essential role of academic institutions and scholars in advancing open access and prioritising collaboration over commercial interests.
We are actively participating in the ISDDC (Isivivane SoLwazi - Digitisation Dialogue Coalition), working towards these aims by supporting the digitisation of knowledge and facilitating open access to vital research resources.
