Today, Cubicoff participated in the EU Clustering Industry Success Cases: Advanced Processing Technologies session at the European Raw Materials Clustering Event in Seville. We presented our REECOVERY plant project in MLF, where Cubicoff successfully completed the engineering for a pilot plant to extract minerals and rare earth elements from acidic waters at the Aznalcóllar pit, in Minera Los Frailes. This project, awarded last autumn in partnership with Lantania Aguas, is part of the REECOVERY consortium, which includes Minera Los Frailes, Cetaqua - Water Technology Centre, AQUATEC, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and CSIC. The project aims to extract valuable minerals and metals from the acidic waters of the open pit at Minera Los Frailes, promoting resource reuse and supporting the circular economy. As part of a European research initiative, REECOVERY is developing and validating a system to recover critical raw materials from acidic waters generated by former mining activities or current mining processes. The European Raw Materials Clustering Event emphasized the importance of securing a stable supply of resources for the green and digital transitions, a key challenge for strategic sectors such as defense and aerospace. We are grateful for the opportunity to share ideas and foster collaboration in this vital space for the future of raw materials. #Cubicoff #Reecovery #EuropeanRawMaterials #Innovation #GreenTransition #SustainableMining

Low cost scaling of carbon removal is vital and to get there we need to understand the full potential of biological processes so we can work with nature to solve multiple challenges. This solution promises to not only remove CO2 but also recover nickel from rocks as they weather by using special hyperaccumulating plants. Eric Matzner, CEO and one of three Co-Founders of Metalplant. “The goal of Metalplant is to help us overcome the problem of nickel being released during enhanced weathering, and by recovering pure nickel from the plant tissues, we can turn nickel from a weakness of the weathering process, into an economically valuable strength,” Eric Matzner Carbon Herald New Scientist Metalplant https://lnkd.in/gKudszz6 https://lnkd.in/g3KN4Sp5

➡ Today, meet Bengi Yagmurlu, Junior Professor for Hydrometallurgical Processing Methods at Technische Universität Clausthal. In the Harmony Project, TU Clausthal will be responsible for the process from the initial phase of mineral processing till the pre-concentration of REEs for further processing. In the initial phase of mineral processing, the slag undergoes physical treatment, which includes crushing, grinding, and sieving to attain the optimal particle size and phase distribution. Subsequently, a hydrometallurgical system will be tested, focusing on selectively leaching rare earth elements under optimum conditions. The subsequent subtask aims to eliminate impurities from the leach liquor to enhance the purity of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) in the solution. Following this, the pre-concentrated REEs in the solution will be selectively precipitated for subsequent solvent extraction steps. The entire process will be optimized at the laboratory scale before scaling up to a pilot plant. 💡 Follow us to be updated about our #Harmony Project! #RareEarthElements #TUClausthal #Recycling #Magnets

A forest will be planted on the territory of Lebedinsky GOK JSC. Not just any forest, but a carbon farm. By the end of the year, Metalloinvest plans to plant more than 3,000 Simon poplar saplings there. This site will be used to develop highly efficient carbon dioxide absorption technologies. The pilot project of the Ministry of Education and Science to create a network of carbon polygons and farms was launched in February 2021. Each such facility is created in partnership with universities and research centers. On the basis of these farms, methodologies are being developed to measure #greenhouse gas emissions and absorption by different types of ecosystems. Industrial enterprises take part in this, but not as actively as we would like. #Metalloinvest is now in the trend. They promise that carbon balance monitoring solutions will then be implemented at production facilities. The photo shows Phosagro's carbon farm in the #Vologda Region. About 100 hectares with 110,000 seedlings of coniferous and deciduous species. Estimated absorption capacity is 0.7 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.
