KI Science Park and A Working Lab have launched Lab Network to promote closer collaboration between the member companies by exchanging knowledge and experiences. – The value of bringing together individuals from both the lab co-working environment and the more established member companies with various backgrounds in such a format was evident, says Sara Gunnerås, COO at KI Science Park. – This forum will also have a focus on sustainability. Some of the topics of interest are having, routines for the safe disposal of hazardous waste, and learning more about recycling and reusing instruments, all particularly important for startup companies, says Armando Cázares-Körner, Lab Manager at A Working Lab. From Brussels to Paris and Milan, Syensqo's brilliant minds joined forces with Nobel laureates, Ernest Solvay Prize winners, innovators, startups, customers, and more to explore the endless possibilities of science and technology. AND we also had this year’s edition of #GirlsLeadinginScience, which brought together 50 young and talented #STEM students for a hackathon focused on developing solutions to combat water waste and climate change. BatteryBoostAI won in the “Technologies x Resources” category. The team's idea can contribute to the reuse of used batteries. “micropBoost” won in the “Sustainability x Society” competition line. The team convinced the jury with the idea of using the power of plant microbiota to protect crops from pests and to support sustainable food production with the help of these natural bacterial products. In the category “Healthcare x Prevention” won Oncovirtuous. The team's goal is to effectively combat tumors with mRNA. “Y Information-as-a-Service” received the special “Artificial Intelligence” award for the development of an AI platform. 🌟 Exciting News from the World of Innovation! I am delighted that Orbem, one of my early-stage investments, has successfully concluded a significant funding round, raising an impressive €30 million to further advance their pioneering work. 🐣Orbem addresses ethical concerns about male chick culling by finding a solution to determine chick gender before hatching. 🚀Born from PhD research in MRI technology, Munich-based startup Orbem accelerated gender detection by merging an industrial MRI scanner with an AI-based platform. This achievement provides a one-second, non-invasive solution that tackles ethical and sustainability issues in the poultry industry. 🌐 Orbem's journey initially focused on the poultry industry. The waste of billions of eggs and the unethical practice of culling one-day-old males were major issues that regulations aimed to address. However, Orbem's ambitions go beyond poultry. Their technology can be applied to various sectors. It can detect parasites and rate the quality of nuts inside their shells for flexible pricing. It can also scan different things like biological samples, plants, and even the human body. This widens its potential in medical imaging, assessing the strength of biodegradable materials, and more. I am proud to have been an early supporter of Orbem.
