Boeing Aerostructures Australia, Australia's sole designer and manufacturer of advanced composite aerostructure components for commercial airplanes, is investing in apprenticeship programs to address skills shortages and changing demographics. Recognising the significance of on-the-job training, Managing Director and a former engineering cadet at Boeing Mick Sorrenson highlights the company's commitment to growing the talent pipeline, “If you're passionate about aerospace, it becomes all-encompassing and all of a sudden you realise you've been here for 35 years and not ever really thought about having to change because you love what you're doing.” The initiative includes a women in aerospace program aimed at increasing female representation in manufacturing. Boeing plans to expand its apprenticeship program to include 40 apprentices over the next four years, fostering diversity and creating a workforce that better reflects the community. Situated in Melbourne's Fishermans Bend, Boeing Aerostructures Australia boasts a rich legacy in Australian aviation dating back to its predecessor companies in 1927. This heritage encompasses the production of aircraft that served the Royal Australian Air Force during World War Two. STEM & Apprenticeship Ambassador | Driving Talent Development & Skills Growth | Shaping Future Talent Pipelines | Empowering the Next Generation in STEM | Championing Social Mobility and Equal Opportunities
🚀 Powering the Future of Engineering with Apprentice Wednesday! 🛫 Our National Apprenticeship Week journey continues across Impellam Group, spotlighting Carbon60 today. Our focus is driving skills and cultivating the engineering leaders of tomorrow. Did you know - Boeing forecasts a need for 60,000 new maintenance technicians globally in the next 20 years – that's 30,000 annually! With Europe's fleet size representing 25% of the world's active fleet, approximately 7,500 new technicians are required each year. And guess what - The UK ranks 5th in Europe for passenger numbers, meaning a significant portion of those 7,500 technicians are needed right here. However, current talent pipelines fall short of these numbers, underscoring the importance of engaging and influencing the next generation of aviation talent and leveraging apprenticeship routes to bolster skills development in this critical sector. At Carbon60 we're not just shaping careers; we're shaping the future of engineering. #NAW2024

Business Partnerships Senior Manager at The Careers & Enterprise Company - working with employers and Careers Hubs to help every young person find their best next step
3 things I love about this: - engaging early, in this case from year 7 (employers who don't do this are really missing out on talent!) - ensuring a mix of encounters and experiences (in school and the workplace) - actively challenging stereotypes and preconceptions (a key part of Standard 2 - Be Inclusive) This really encapsulates so much of what we talk about with #EmployerStandards in terms of quality employer outreach. Want to know how your business compares? Use our free tool: https://bit.ly/4dmysOt
Caitlin, an aerospace engineering #apprentice, credits her decision to pursue both engineering and an #apprenticeship to the early and repeated encounters with her current employer BAE Systems when she was at school. Employers! Help young people understand the different pathways open to them so they can feel prepared for their best next step after results day. Looking for ways to improve your engagement with the education sector and inspire your future workforce? From K-tech Apprentice to Receiving Controller ⭐ Meet Signe, a remarkable young talent at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Starting as a K-tech AS apprentice at 17, she's now a Receiving Controller, ensuring the quality of parts for F-35 aircraft and advanced defence systems. Her journey is a testament to dedication and hard work. "It's incredibly gratifying to receive this level of trust. It’s a significant responsibility. We need to inspect for any general damage, check the quality of paint and masking, ensure that parts are manufactured correctly, and most importantly, confirm that they meet our delivery standards,” Signe says. We believe in nurturing talent and providing pathways for growth. Signe's story is just one example of how apprenticeships can lead to fulfilling and impactful careers. You might not realize it, but aerospace manufacturing is facing a serious talent drought. I've seen top companies struggling to find skilled workers, from engineers to technicians. It's not just about bodies – we need minds that can keep pace with rapid technological shifts. Think about it: as veteran workers retire, who's stepping up? The industry's high-tech evolution demands a new breed of talent. You'd be surprised how many crucial roles go unfilled. I believe we need to overhaul our approach to recruitment and training. Here's my take: companies must get creative. Partner with schools, offer apprenticeships, and showcase the industry's cutting-edge projects. It's time to make aerospace manufacturing cool again. After all, you could be building the next Mars rover or supersonic jet. #AerospaceJobs #ManufacturingInnovation #TalentCrisis

CEO @ Valuechain | Agile Leader | Intrapreneur to Entrepreneur | Podcast Host | Speaker on Digitalisation enabling Manufacturing
Recently, I’ve engaged in numerous conversations highlighting a critical issue within the aerospace industry: the skill gap. While apprenticeships and similar programs are pivotal for bridging this gap, there’s an innovative solution we shouldn’t overlook—game engine-powered factory digital twins. These advanced simulations not only offer a realistic training ground for apprentices but also provide a comprehensive exposure to the intricacies of aerospace manufacturing. By integrating digital twins into training programs, companies can enhance learning experiences, simulate real-world scenarios without the risks, and prepare a workforce that’s ready to tackle the challenges of modern manufacturing. Let’s embrace the future of training and development. #AerospaceInnovation #DigitalTwins #SkillGap #ManufacturingExcellence #FutureOfWork
