We learnt so much about the seafood industry at Umar Nguyen's sharing event last week at the Institute of Culinary Excellence. It was fascinating to learn about the sustainable initiatives these suppliers are implementing to better people, animals and the planet.   Here are a few key takeaways we wanted to share: 🌊 A. Raptis & Sons Pty Ltd have fitted thicker and more rigid nets to their prawn trawlers, allowing non-target and undersized target species to escape. Water flow through the net is also increased, resulting in minimised drag, therefore reducing fuel and emissions. 🌊 Skull Island Tiger Prawns are caught during the night to reduce bycatch. They have also fitted turtle excluder devices in the prawn nets, allowing them and other large animals to escape unharmed. 🌊 Ora King uses automatic feeders to dispense several meals daily while underwater cameras closely monitor appetite and activity to ensure their salmon receive the right amount and no feed is wasted. #sustainableseafood #seafoodindustry #sustainablefarming
