Today’s #goodnews that I wish my friends knew: a new study proves that by just letting your grass grow a little longer, you can help boost butterflies by up to 93%…! The main reason for butterfly decline in the UK is having no safe home from habitat destruction, which is why it can be so beneficial to create your own wild space with nutrients & vegetation. These animals can be quite adaptable, and by being a little lazy, we can easily give them a fighting chance. I have made little meadow areas in our garden which I cut just once a year, in late summer (then put the cuttings on the compost heap). The grass flowers look really pretty and there are a few other pretty meadow flowers, like red campion.
