On March 6, the first of two advanced Saab 340 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft has arrived in Poland. The procurement of these radar reconnaissance aircraft from Sweden and Saab, a deal finalized in July 2023 for SEK 600 million (approximately EUR 52 million), represents a strategic enhancement of Poland’s defence capabilities. The Saab 340 AEW aircraft, adapted from the Saab 340 regional turboprop airliner, plays a pivotal role in surveillance and command operations. It is equipped with the cutting-edge Erieye AEW/AEW&C system, boasting an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar that sits atop the aircraft’s fuselage. This state-of-the-art radar system has the capability to track both airborne and maritime targets over distances exceeding 550 kilometers (342 miles), significantly extending Poland’s surveillance reach and enhancing its national security. Naval Installations and Regions must shift to a war footing and consider SHORAD, counter unmanned systems (USV, UAV, UGV), or suffer a similar situation like the Russians in Crimea or the US at Pearl Harbor. Mikoyan MiG-31 – Mach 2.83 The Mikoyan MiG-31 Foxhound, the fastest active fighter jet in the world, is a supersonic interceptor renowned for its speed and long-range capabilities. The U.S. Air Force Security Forces Center is set to roll out new small unmanned aircraft systems technologies before the end of this year. Deployable warfighting technologies AFSFC is fielding in 2024 include the quad copter-Teal 2 sUAS and Red Air Cell training system. ➡ The Teal 2 sUAS compliments the larger Puma UAS system and gives security forces Defenders a lightweight, easy-to-operate vertical take-off and landing system they can carry and launch quickly to provide local area overwatch and situational awareness.
