Introducing job-seekers to hiring managers... ...is one of my favorite perks of running a company at the center of a professional community, in my case, the CustomerX community, which results in having a massive network on both sides of the hiring equation. So far this year I've introduced 17 job seekers who were impacted by tech layoffs to senior executives in companies they were targeting. Most of them had applied online and their application was lost in the "black hole", so the introduction got them noticed. To the best of my knowledge, four of these job seekers were hired. Why do I say "to the best of my knowledge"? Because the only way to know if someone you introduced to a hiring manager gets the job is if you happen to see their LinkedIn post announcing their new job. My advice to job seekers: Recognize that when someone opens up their network to make introductions for you, they truly care about you and want to help. So make it easy for them to find out if their introduction helped you. Let them know if you get an interview. Let them know if you get the job. Let them know if you weren't a fit so they can think of other people to introduce you to who could be a better fit. Sounds simple, and it is. This positive outcome will make this person want to keep making introductions for others, which creates a virtuous circle and a truly supportive community. And keep hitting me up for intros, it's one of my favorite things to do. #CustomerX #CustomerMarketing

Congrats to them (and you!) It's so important to always provide gratitude and feedback/ follow up after. Whether it's for job applications, customer reference calls, or anything in between. It feels good to know your effort helped and is a small but easy way to thank them.
