David Uberti provides an interesting outlook on America's energy demands. States that can provide clean energy may be positioned to attract America's Tech companies who are actively expanding across the country. I am openly an advocate for Nuclear Power, as such my opinion presents a bias. States seeking to create high-paying jobs should consider the advantage it would put them in to be able to meet the energy demands of projects like Microsoft supercomputer requiring 5 gigawatts of energy.

Criticism: Small modular #nuclearreactors are an unproven, new technology that will take decades to develop safely. Truth: The technology invented 70 years ago used safely to this day in extreme environments.

This is absolutely something we need bipartisan efforts to correct- whether it’s AI, cloud computing advancements, or electric vehicle charging, the power grid needs a plan to enable US businesses to excel. Power outages in Central and South America occur still, so we’re talking about 1/2 the globe without excess power, even as more and more tech requires it. #infrastructure #ai #innovation

But you, too, might feel the substitution appropriate if you’d just read How Big Things Get Done, an indispensable if perhaps unduly optimistic response to the tendency of modern projects, like California’s US$9 billion high-speed train project, to go, um, off the rails. "Nuclear power construction and IT projects also tend to go disastrously and exorbitantly wrong. But these are just three of the worst kinds of megaprojects, a cursed category defined by the authors, Bent Flyvbjerg and Dan Gardner, as projects exceeding US$1 billion in costs. These ventures run so horribly and consistently over budget and beyond schedule that their risks should give pause to any business leader, politician, or organization considering one." #capitalprojects

NATO DIANA: ENERGY & POWER CHALLENGE NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) has launched five 2024 challenges to continue to attract the best and brightest innovators across the Alliance in support of its mission to build a peaceful and more resilient future. The domain of #energy generation and provision faces significant challenges, including increasing demand, aging infrastructure, environmental impact, systemic resilience issues, and #cyber-physical security threats. Addressing these challenges requires an inherently dual-use approach to develop energy systems that can ensure a reliable power supply, withstand a variety of threats, and adapt to changing environmental conditions. This challenge focuses on enhancing #resilience in energy and power across various contexts, including generation, storage, distribution, recovery, harvesting, and access across land, sea, air, and space. Potential solutions may involve modular #power generation and storage; low power chips for energy efficiency in digital transformation; advanced batteries and fuels; and interfaces to provide energy to mobile systems.
