#7Days2024 is only two weeks away, and our close-knit team of cyclists are preparing to pedal over 1,100 km across Southern Ontario. John Barry, a seven-time participant in the event, explains his commitment to the challenge is fueled by a personal mission to change pancreatic cancer survival rates. “The end goal is to eliminate cancer; that’s the big goal, and I can’t do it, but I can do my part and help raise money." It's World Cancer Day. This year, the Alberta Cancer Foundation is shining a light on the economic challenges of facing a cancer diagnosis. Once diagnosed with cancer, an individual could require medical and specialized care for months (if not years). A recent study concluded that the economic burden of cancer in Canada, including travel and accommodation costs, parking, out-of-pocket expenses and income loss averages, could be be as high as $2,500/month per patient. It's particularly challenging for those who have to travel far distances for treatments, which is frankly the reality for many. That's where the Alberta Cancer Foundation Patient Financial Assistance program comes in. It's to provide a little boost for those facing a difficult cancer diagnosis who might have to travel for treatments, arrange child care or perhaps lose employment income. Entirely funded by generous donors, it's all about Albertans helping Albertans.
Today, on World Cancer Day, your generosity can go twice as far! Support our Patient Financial Assistance Program, offering crucial relief for eligible Albertans facing cancer, like Michael Kosterman. Your impact means everything to the eligible families affected by cancer in every community across the province. This includes Michael, an acute myeloid leukemia survivor from Duchess, Alberta. Thanks to an anonymous donor, every donation made today will be matched, up to $200,000, to have double the impact for this incredibly important program. Please give generously: https://lnkd.in/g-PpEqci #Albertacancer #WorldCancerDay2024 #PatientFinancialAssistance #Costofcancer #Givetoday

🌟 Honoring a Hero: Brandon’s NYC HYROX Run for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network 🌟 Dear LinkedIn community, I am deeply moved to share the inspiring story of my friend Brandon, who embodies strength, resilience, and compassion. Brandon’s journey is one of courage and determination, and I invite you to join me in supporting his incredible mission. 🏃♂️ The Challenge: NYC HYROX Solo Race This Saturday, Brandon will be participating in the NYC HYROX, a grueling athletic event that combines functional fitness challenges with endurance running. As he tackles each obstacle, he carries the memory of my late husband Danny Levato, who valiantly fought NSCLC cancer. 🌟 Fighting for a Cause Brandon’s race isn’t just about personal achievement; it’s about making a difference. He has set a goal to raise $10,000 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). PanCAN is dedicated to advancing research, providing patient support, and advocating for those affected by this devastating disease. 🙏 How You Can Help Let’s rally together! Your support matters. Whether it’s a donation, sharing Brandon’s fundraising page, or cheering him on virtually, every action counts. Together, we can contribute to early detection, improved treatments, and increased awareness. 🔗 Donate Now Support Brandon’s Fundraiser 📢 Spread the Word Share this post and let others know about Brandon’s mission. We're halfway through 2024, which sadly means approximately 150,000 more men have been diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. You can make a difference for these patients by giving to our limited-time matching gift fund! The Schwartz Family has stepped forward to match every donation – dollar for dollar – made to ZERO Prostate Cancer, up to $10,000. But you must act fast – this matching gift expires at midnight tomorrow. Our goal is to secure funding that will allow all patients to access help as they face their diagnoses. Give at zerocancer.org/give-now. #ZEROProstateCancer
