WFP Increases Refugee Food Rations by 25% The World Food Programme (WFP) will increase its monthly cash transfers to refugees from 50 percent to 75 percent, starting in August 2024. This means that the monthly allocation of $5 (K8,755) per person per month will increase to $7.76 (K13,600) per person per month. While this may not fully meet all the refugees' needs, it will make a significant difference. The exercises are part of the project intervention outcomes to supporting communities strengthen #GBV prevention and response mechanisms. The #resurgence of #irregular #migration, particulary from West Africa and other parts of Africa, underscores the urgent need to understand and address its root causes. While most African migration occurs within the continent, the #increasing #trend of #irregular #migration to Europe is characterized by severe human-rights violations, significant loss of life, and economic inefficiencies in migrants' home countries, as well as in transit and destination countries. ■Political instability, macroeconomic schocks, violent conflict, and a lack of opportunity often fuel migration pressures. In recent years, these issues have been coumpounded by climate change, which has exacerbated food and water insecurity and destroyed lives and livelihoods. ■Tackling irregular migration requires creating conditions for a fulfilling life in Africa such as: ●Creating resilient, sustainable and inclusive economic opportunities for women and youth. ●Advance gender equality and women's empowerment in support of resilient, sustainable and inclusive economic growth ●Support the creation of stable and enabling environments for women and youth to access decent jobs, create enterprises (MSMEs), access to resources (financing, land, technologies, certifications), increase productivity, income, and representation in governing bodies. ●Provide the necessary skills, education and tools to women and youth to be competitive in local markets and accessing foreign markets. To #reduce irregular migration, it's crucial to #provide potential migrants with opportunities to #improve their lives at home.

Migrants face extreme violence on the Mediterranean route. Chad houses the largest number of Sudanese refugees in its camps. Tayyaba Rehan explores the injustices suffered by these refugees. The situation in these camps has become much more tense due to the severe exploitation of women, children, and even volunteers. In addition, a shortage of food, water, and other necessities has resulted in several casualties, yet, neither the international community nor the national government is paying heed to it.
