I'd argue that border security should be one of the Guard's primary missions -- especially given the illegal immigration, human-trafficking, and drug-trafficking threats we currently face. Done properly and with the right authorities, it would provide the opportunity to exercise a bevy of combat tasks, e.g. reconnaissance, surveillance, movement to contact, air movement, air assault, raid, defend, resupply, and command-and-control to name just a few. https://lnkd.in/g5NGwEXT

“More than 20,000 Chinese nationals have illegally crossed since the new fiscal year began on Oct. 1 …Brandon Judd, the president of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), which represents all rank-and-file Border Patrol agents nationwide (reports) the majority of the Chinese border crossers are single adult males of military age…The influx of Chinese migrants has raised concerns that some may have links to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).” For perspective, 20,000 military-age Chinese illegals is equivalent to about 10 People’s Liberation Army Special Operations Forces (SOF) Brigades. 10 PLA SOF brigades operating within the US would wreak holy hell on our society and national defense infrastructure by carrying out assassinations, critical infrastructure sabotage, strategic-impact combat assaults, and random terrorist attacks per PLA doctrine. And that’s just the cumulative potential impact of the PRC illegals entering the US since last October. A rhetorical question: does anyone in the Executive Branch or Congress actually care?

The release of the MEP at the I-35 Border Patrol Checkpoint incorporates advanced technology to meet the safety of the traveling public while facilitating and expediting trade. - The MEP is an x-ray machine that is used to enhance inspections of commercial vehicles through heavy shielding, thus providing a safe and expedited examination. - NOTE: The system is able to scan more than 150 containers per hour in the typical flow of traffic at the checkpoint. - CBP employs an in-depth, layered enforcement strategy to stop illegal activity, including narcotics smuggling, at our borders. Current U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), DoD-SkillBridge, Training Specialist intern, & United States Air Force, Chief Master Sergeant, Gilbert Magallanez has important advice in utilizing the DoD SkillBridge program at CBP. “Participation in SkillBridge at CBP has afforded me the opportunity to take my future into my own hands and go after my CBP career aspirations aggressively and proactively.” Gilbert elaborates, “We all go through this transition from the military. It can be daunting and sometimes directionless as opposed to the great structure of a military career. My SkillBridge internship experience with CBP clarified and focused my post military career direction.”    Gilbert’s military career is distinguished by selfless service and honor above all. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, Security Forces in 2003, deploying to Kuwait (twice) and Iraq (once). Through his military contacts, Gilbert learned of a Training Specialist, SkillBridge internship role working within CBP’s, U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) and the Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue Unit (BORSTAR), at USBP’s Special Operations Group (SOG), headquartered in El Paso, Texas. BORTAC and BORSTAR direct their nationally dispersed assets from SOG, providing USBP with immediate tactical and emergency response assets.    “This internship afforded me an unprecedented 'inside look' of experiencing CBP's elite BORTAC/BORSTAR mission”, states Gilbert. "Prior to interning, I didn’t think I would consider applying for a uniformed agent position with USBP. After becoming familiar with the mission and receiving valuable insights from various contacts within SOG, I changed my stance and applied for the Border Patrol Agent (BPA) position.” Gilbert continues, “even though my internship is a non-law enforcement one, the skillset acquired during my military career, fits so well within the USBP/SOG’s mission and are utilized frequently in my CBP Skillbridge role.”   Gilbert emphasizes, “perhaps the greatest benefit of the Skillbridge program is being relieved of military obligations and having the opportunity to focus on my family, myself and my transition. Had I remained on active duty through my terminal leave start date, I would not have been able to achieve the amount of retirement and civilian workforce preparation as I have.”   Gilbert advised that this support role via SkillBridge "clarified his desire to stay in law enforcement as he is enthusiastic about joining the USBP as a Border Patrol Agent post internship" with aspirations of joining either BORTAC or BORSTAR as his career progresses.
