Loving this clear and informative, 14 minute video interview on EV batteries featuring Euan McTurk and Philippa FORRESTER. Highlights include: 💡 The difference between an EV battery and the battery in your mobile phone / laptop 💪 Why EV batteries are lasting longer than expected ♻ How the lifecyle of "used" EV batteries can be extended (second life storage) before they are recycled to recover the majority of the critical materials (shout out to Dr Christian Marston, Co-Founder, Director Altilium Clean Technology) 👍 Developments in battery chemistry that are already reducing the need for Cobalt and other critical materials in the future (i.e. Nickel and Lithium) 👏 EV industry backed initiatives to protect workers from unregulated artisanal mining (this mainly applies to Cobalt, demand for which is expected to decline with advances in battery chemistry) One year into my EV journey I can't deny I would like more range. However, I'm extremely comfortable with the fact that I'm not pumping out harmful emissions every time I drive it. And I love the driving experience because let's face it, you can't actually drive your road car like you stole it.. If you're lucky enough, get a track day car (for a few hundred miles a year).
Great to chat with Philippa FORRESTER about electric vehicle batteries, including: What's in them The ethics of their supply chain How long they'll last in an EV What happens to them after they "die" The truth around EV batteries is so much rosier than some would have you think. https://lnkd.in/ejyMycxM
