Here's our theory of mitochondrial transfer in the bloodstream: - The human body has about a Trillion platelets in circulation at any given point, and recycles about 1/10 per day. - Each of which contains 4-5 mitochondria, generally "younger" (less damage in the mtDNA). - These mitochondria are ejected in small vesicles ("mitlets") before the platelet is recycled. - These mitlets are quickly absorbed by other cells nearby...white blood cells, damaged tissue, etc. - So our bodies supply about half a trillion young mitochondria per day from the bone marrow to other peripheral tissues. That's 150 trillion mitochondria per year. (And there are many other types of EVs containing mitochondria, from other sources, so this number could be much higher). There are 37 trillion cells in the body, so in theory"on average, all the cells of your body are getting drip-fed with at least 5 new mitochondria per year. But this is such a rough and unproven estimate, it's hard to know if it's true or not. But, we think it represents a system of refreshing mitochondrial throughout the body, to provide longer life span. "The Mitochondrial Cycle of the Body" Here's a summary video:

Serologically active clinically quiescent (SACQ) systemic #lupus erythematosus is heterogeneous, but hierarchical cluster analysis subgroups these patients into three distinct #phenotypes with unique flare patterns and organ damage accumulation rates: the major organ involvement subtype (cluster 1), precise SACQ subtype (cluster 2), and #renal involvement subtype (cluster 3). This stratification may guide precision therapy and improve long-term outcomes. 🔗https://lnkd.in/d4r4U2eE
