Excellent theatre professionals are expressive, wired for deep connection, and detail-driven. They think in terms of the big “why” and what tactics they can use to achieve their “why.” They have deep wells of energy they can draw from if they catch your vision. No other major/job requires students/employees to memorizes hours worth of material, intimately know the themes and desires of the characters, and put together a presentation that leads an audience of strangers to understand and empathize with a story they may have never heard until that moment. If you have a story that needs telling, hire a theatre major.

🎬 Navigating criticism is an essential skill for actors and creatives, as it can shape or shatter one's career. It's important to distinguish between destructive criticism from embittered individuals, who may project their own frustrations, and constructive feedback from well-meaning critics or teachers. While harsh critics are inevitable, even for renowned actors like Meryl Streep and Keanu Reeves, handling criticism with poise is key. Actors must learn to reject toxic negativity without being consumed by praise, maintaining a balanced approach that supports both emotional resilience and artistic growth. Ultimately, choosing whose opinions to value and whose to ignore is crucial for success in the industry. By focusing on growth and perseverance, actors can thrive amidst the noise of criticism. This balance between repelling harmful critique and embracing useful feedback is vital for a long, healthy career. ✅ Check out all of our classes here: https://lnkd.in/gurCrSXY 🔥 Would you like audit a free class just to test the waters first? Inspiring Young Actors: The Importance of Affirmations Directing student theatre presents unique challenges. For some, it's a first and perhaps only stage experience; for others, it sparks a lifelong passion for theatrical storytelling, potentially shaping careers. Practical applications in directing are essential. As a director, affirmations are crucial in student theatre. Rehearsals can be daunting and disheartening. To counter this, I start each rehearsal with tailored affirmations. Crafting these requires time and intuition, fitting the age and experience of each actor. After my directing stint at Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts, I reflected on affirmations and their impact. Here’s what I emphasized. Week 1: Elementary-Level Actors Working with varying confidence levels, I chose affirmations like: “I am creative.” Encourages imagination and innovation. “I am fearless.” Helps conquer stage fright. “I am extraordinary.” Emphasizes uniqueness and talent. Week 2: Middle School-Level Actors With diverse intuition and passion, I focused on: "I am a creator.” Encourages character development. “I am a collaborator.” Highlights teamwork. “I am a storyteller.” Reminds of theatre's essence. Affirmations foster a positive, supportive environment, building confidence, creativity, and unity among actors. They empower young performers, leaving lasting impacts beyond the stage. #TheatreDirector #PerformingArts #TheatreProduction #CreativeLeadership #StageManagement #ArtsEducation #Directing #TheatreCommunity #YouthTheatre #StudentTheatre #TheatreTraining #ArtisticDirector #LivePerformance #ActingCoach #TheatreCareers #ProductionManagement #TheatreArts #LeadershipInTheArts #ArtsManagement #CommunityTheatre

🎭 Theatre Students: Start Building Your Portfolio Early! 🎭 Coming from an educational administrator and a Theatre professional. As someone who has studied theatre for 4 years, my journey has been fueled by passion. I started acting in church dramas, volunteered to perform in different places, and participated in numerous productions both inside and outside the theatre. These experiences shaped my love for storytelling and performing arts. Now, I’m taking the bold step to pursue my dreams further with a master’s in film, directing, and more . But here’s the catch—every application I’ve encountered asks for a portfolio. A portfolio that no one told us, as theatre students, we’d need or how crucial it would be for our careers. At this moment, I find myself stuck—struggling to prove my journey and passion with a structured portfolio. And I know I’m not alone in this. To every theatre student out there: Start early. Document everything. Every role, every performance, every project matters. Your portfolio isn’t just about showcasing your work; it’s a testament to your growth, dedication, and potential. Let’s change the narrative. Let’s prepare future theatre professionals to step into the industry with confidence and all the tools they need to succeed. If you’re in the arts, how did you build your portfolio? Or, what advice would you share with students just starting? Let’s share and grow together. #Theatre #PortfolioBuilding #ArtsEducation #CreativeJourney #Storytelling

Teamwork 👍🏻 Lessons from the Theatre | Part 3️⃣ 🎭 The rehearsal and preparation time frame for a theatre production is typically 4-6 weeks before a paying audience arrives to see the magic 💰 That means everyone involved in theatre both onstage and back stage needs to get through the typical team formation process ‘forming, storming, normimg and performing’ stage pretty quickly 💨 So how do they do it? What can we learn from the theatre? 🧐 💎 Purpose - as discussed in Part 2️⃣ this is lazer sharp and clear to ALL involved - it makes sense cognitively and emotionally 💎 Egos left at door - theatre can attract some major seasoned celebrities as well as people who are undertaking their first acting role or their first theatre job. Everyone functions as an ensemble recognising they are all equally important to the production’s success 💎 Discipline - a strange word to use in a business context, but without discipline theatre productions would fall apart - but more on that in Part 4️⃣ coming soon 😎 Keep shining ⭐️⭐️⭐️
