#breastcancer screening is an area we would love to see more #femtec #founders get in to, especially to decrease #disparities. โWhen Black women are diagnosed, it tends to be at a later stage of the disease. White women are diagnosed with stage 1 and 2 and Black women more often at stage 3 or stage 4, which is metastatic,โ Lisa Hayes, ED for Pink-4-Ever, Inc said. Here are some areas for improvement: 1. A recent study showed that "although most women reported that their clinicians counseled them about breast density, the unaddressed worries or concerns and unanswered questions, especially among Hispanic and Asian women and those with low literacy, highlighted areas where discussions could be improved." This would be an easy patient education module. 2. Self scheduling can vastly improve our screening rates. "โSelf-scheduling helps make the path to mammogram completion a little smootherโ said the studyโs lead author,ย Kimberly Waddell, PhD, MSCI. โSimple changes like these can have an outsized impact on preventive health screenings.โ 3. Patient navigators can help with follow up tests needed to assess for cancer, especially for patients with low resources. The study concluded that "Expanding patient navigators to include all disadvantaged women within primary care networks could improve equity in cancer care." What are your ideas? What are you working on? Sources: Intro: https://lnkd.in/etKhHTfp 1. Kressin NR,ย Wormwood JB,ย Battaglia TA,ย Slanetz PJ,ย Gunn CM. ๐ข Research Update: The Impact of Triumf Mobile Health Game on Pediatric Cancer Patients Triin Tark's master's thesis, "The Effect of Triumf Mobile Health Game on Psychological Well-Being and Health-Related Quality of Life Among Pediatric Cancer Patients: A Pilot Study," offers significant insights into the benefits of our gamified digital health intervention. ๐งย Study Overview: Children with chronic illnesses, such as cancer, are at a higher risk of developing mental health issues and often lack adequate psychological support. Triumf's mobile solution Triumfland Saga aims to detect, prevent, and reduce these psychological challenges through a gamified approach. ๐ย Research Highlights: Participants:ย Nine pediatric cancer patients aged 7-12 years. Intervention:ย 60-day period with a recommended 10 minutes of gameplay daily. Measurements:ย Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and KIDSCREEN-52 (KS-52) were completed by participants and their parents before and after the intervention. ๐ย Key Findings: Improved Psychological Well-Being:ย Participants showed significant improvement in psychological well-being post-intervention. Enhanced Physical Health:ย The KS-52 physical health subscale score indicated better overall health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Partial Support for Intervention Questions:ย The study found partial support that intervention questions could detect similar issues as standardized questionnaires. The findings suggest that Triumf's digital intervention, in the form of a mobile health game, can positively impact the psychological well-being of pediatric cancer patients. Further research is recommended to explore its effects on other populations and to validate the intervention questions. This study highlights the potential of digital health solutions in providing essential psychological support to children with chronic illnesses. ๐ #DigitalHealth #PediatricCare #MentalHealth #GamifiedHealth #HealthcareInnovation #TriumfHealth #teamtriumf #TriumflandSaga Read the thesis:ย https://lnkd.in/gWAjFxB4

Preventing brain damage in preterm babies When babies are born extremely prematurely, the tiny and fragile blood vessels in their brain can break, causing a hemorrhage; the younger the baby, the higher the risk. Why this happens is not fully known, but poor neurological outcomes from brain bleeding are well established, explains the senior author. In the new study, scientists demonstrated in mouse models that fibrin, which normally works to enable blood clotting, interferes with a cell-signaling pathway that plays a vital role in neuron creationโparticularly in the cerebellum. They also confirmed their findings using brain scans from nearly 60 preterm infants. No other blood protein had the same inhibitory effect on this pathway, the author says, which allowed the team to pinpoint fibrin as a clear therapeutic target for treating babies who experience brain bleeds. The studyโs findings hold great significance for neonatal care, but also expand into other realms of medicine, as the signaling pathway (known as the โsonic hedgehogโ pathway, or SHH) at the center of the study plays other important roles in human development and is implicated in a wide range of diseases. The lab previously developed a drug, a therapeutic monoclonal antibody, that acts only on fibrinโs harmful properties without affecting its beneficial role in blood clotting. This fibrin-targeting immunotherapy protects from multiple sclerosis and Alzheimerโs disease in mice. A humanized version of this first-in-class fibrin immunotherapy is already in Phase 1 safety clinical trials by Therini Bio. #ScienceMission #sciencenewshighlights https://lnkd.in/gku24vTY
