Daily Dollop of Wallop #14 What's happening LinkedIn? So today, a few words of what I hope to be wisdom but also, a little sobering without meaning to be negative. I read a headline this morning in the trade press that said, in a survey (conducted by Double Dutch spirits and mixer brand) of 2,000 people that £7.4 billion is to be spent in UK hospitality this festive season. A staggering amount and apparently over 3x the amount previously spent last year. Initially, I was honestly flabbergasted. I was then giddy with excitement because, our beloved trade is going to see some real gains over the next 2 weeks to help soften the blows of an incredibly difficult year - nay 3 years! The thing that then got me, was that whilst this was an amazing headline, conducted by a collective of people that know what to do, was still on just 2,000 people. There were some other noteworthy statistics that article brought to my attention, but I had that little spec of doubt in me, because I know what we are like. Behind the bar, behind the reception desk, in the warehouse, in the kitchen, in the office, in the vineyards and in every aspect of work that goes into the guest experience in UK hospitality, the work is tireless, relentless, draining and utterly exhausting. The reward ONLY comes when the UK on-trade is thronged with party people, digestif drinkers, spirit slurpers, grub grabbers, burger munchers, sushi smashers, lobster lickers and giggle juice guzzlers. For me, I'll see it when I believe it. This is not meant to sound as pessimistic as it no doubt comes across. One more train strike, one more storm (thunder, rain, shit - it's all the same to me) could bludgeon the very heart of those that graft to give people joy. I am going to keep my hopes high, heart open and mind focussed to ensure that I really help to say what my slogan reads. SERVE THOSE THAT SERVE OTHERS. Why would you commit to a night out at a restaurant, with a narrow-focus menu, when you and your friends can eat your way round a host of unique and independent street food traders in the one location? Food halls are like food courts of old, but without the Burger King. Or the vinyl tabletops. Good food halls are bold, well-dressed, and indicative of the new confidence in British food. Some of them (we can talk about which ones....) are filled with the new food heroes that work the street – the sort of trader that competes in the British Street Food Awards. Some of them, however, are filled with brands that have been dreamt up in board meetings to LOOK that way. But who does it best? After calling for nominations on Facebook, instagram and Twitter, we'll list the three most popular and put them to a public vote. At the grand finals of the 2024 British Street Food Awards final (Hackney Bridge on September 13-15) where the very best traders in Britain will be cooking their hearts out to win the British title AND a place in the grand finale of the 2024 European Street Food Awards in Germany – we’ll announce our winners. The ZZ's Ice Cream Puffs team is thrilled to have completed our participation at Foodie Land this past weekend. It was a valuable learning experience for myself and the entire team, filled with positive customer interactions and operational insights. Optimizing Efficiency: We identified areas to streamline the ordering process, ensuring a faster and more enjoyable experience for our customers. Reducing wait times for our delicious ice cream puffs is a key focus moving forward. Customer Loyalty: We were delighted by the number of repeat customers who came back for multiple visits. Your enthusiasm for our product is incredibly motivating, and we appreciate your continued support. Adapting to New Environments: This event provided an opportunity to assess the logistics of operating within a tent setup compared to our usual food truck. While there were some adjustments, we're confident in our ability to adapt and improve for future events. Overcoming Challenges: A brief rain ⛈️shower threatened to dampen the festivities (almost literally!), but our team persevered and ensured a successful conclusion. We're committed to being prepared for any weather condition that might arise.
