🆕 Workplace literacy and learning expert Brigid Hayes shares that the Institute for Research on Public Policy has released a fourth publication in its Empowering Canada’s Workforce thematic area: Adult Education: The Missing Piece to Bridging the Digital Literacy Divide. 💻📱 “The use of online services to carry out essential everyday activities is making Canada’s digital divide increasingly evident. This paper argues that the divide extends beyond mere access to technology and is fundamentally about the ability to benefit from it, which hinges on digital literacy.  Canada’s adult education programs are well positioned to offer essential digital learning opportunities but are currently excluded from the digital learning conversation. The paper advocates for sustained core funding for adult education programs and establishing a national platform for resource sharing. I hold a vital position in shaping a nation’s future, fostering global progress by educating and inspiring the next generation, promoting critical thinking, and driving societal development and innovation. The Voices of teachers can be heard through the following if we are given the opportunities. 1. Shaping the Future of Education: Teachers are the cornerstone of our educational systems, molding young minds and fostering a love for learning. My innovative teaching methods and dedication to my student success lay the foundation for a brighter future. By nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and resilience, I prepare my students to navigate and contribute to an ever-evolving world. 2. Inclusion in Decision-Making and Policy Formation: It is imperative that teachers’ voices are heard in the corridors of power. Including educators in decision-making and policy formation ensures that educational reforms are grounded in classroom realities. Teachers bring invaluable insights and practical experience that can drive meaningful and effective changes in the education sector. 3. As we kick off 2024, I'm excited to share a recap of our recent milestones at Aprende Institute! Over the past 4 years, we’ve empowered over 250,000 Latinos across the US to achieve their personal and professional goals through culturally relevant educational opportunities. But our impact isn't just about individual success; we've come to forge strong partnerships with forward-thinking organizations that share our mission! 💪🏾In 2023, we set out on a mission to address a critical need in the healthcare industry: helping organizations recruit and retain frontline healthcare workers. Our partnership with HCA Healthcare led to the creation of an entry-level Patient Care Technician (PCT) training program in Spanish, that will provide non-clinical frontline workers (think maintenance, food service, janitorial) the healthcare fundamentals and the English training necessary to be hired as PCTs and interact with patients. This was no small feat. According to the American Hospital Association, the healthcare industry is projected to face a 2.3 million worker shortage by 2025, with Latinos significantly underrepresented in this field, yet culturally positioned to thrive. This initiative will unlock a new pool of motivated Latino candidates who are eager to build a professional career in healthcare. Thanks Blake Nemelka, Ph.D., Jen Boren MBA, RN, CPHQ, FACHE, CENP and Emily Shreeve, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, CENP, NPD-BC for trusting Aprende to be your partner in this shared mission, and Shaylee Reynolds and Justin Sueing for making this happen! 💪🏾We also made significant strides in empowering businesses to foster customer loyalty through tailored skills training. In 2023, we grew the Stanley Academy, a white-label academy that empowers Stanley customers to develop their trade skills and foster a stronger connection with the brand. Thanks Daniela Ibañez Garcia, Judith Zethof (MBA)! To date, we've enrolled over 28,000 Stanley clients, and we’re eager to partner with more organizations to elevate their engagement and loyalty with Latino customers. 💪🏾Our partnerships don't stop there. Recently, MAJORITY also teamed up with Aprende to offer their Latino customers exclusive access to our courses.  Our collaboration is just kicking off, but all indicators are pointing to this becoming an incredibly powerful joint-effort in empowering Majority's Spanish-speaking US Latino clients. ¡Gracias Jose Daniel Zambrano, Magnus Larsson y Jonas Lörnell por la confianza! 🙌🏾This 2024, we remain committed to empowering businesses to upskill their Latino frontline workforce and we're also eager to strengthen our connections with forward-thinking community colleges that serve Hispanic communities in the US.
