Last week, we celebrated KIPP Philly Day at Xfinity Live!, a special event to welcome back our dedicated KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools teachers and staff as we prepare for an inspiring new school year. Our theme for this year is "Dream Without Limits." It's a powerful reminder of the impact we can have on our students' futures. Together, let's embrace the opportunity to encourage every student to reach for their fullest potential. A huge thank you to our CEO, Natalie Wiltshire, for leading our organization with integrity and grace, our incredible Board members and Board Chairs, Samantha Wilson Jones, JD, LLM, MBA, and Leigh N. Whitaker, for keeping us on track to fulfill our mission, and our KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools team for their passion and unwavering commitment to students and families. Together, we will continue to build a future without limits and support our students in achieving their dreams. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead! #KIPPPhilly #BackToSchool #KIPPPhillyDay #dreamwithoutlimits

Region 1 Representative - FEMA National YPC (2024-25) & Criminal Justice & Protective Services Student
Today, I was fortunate enough to help represent Vinal Technical High School at ADL’s “#NoPlaceForHate Day” hosted by the Hartford Yard Goats at their home field, Dunkin Park. It was inspiring to see schools that have been in the program from the start and those that recently joined (such as Vinal Tech) collaborate. Programs such as No Place For Hate should be commonplace in all schools. This program helps students understand equity, challenge bias, and create a culture of tolerance in our schools. These values are essential for education, the workplace, and life. Speaking from my experience in the program, even small actions can help students feel connected and safer in their schools. But how do these programs set up kids for success in life and the workplace? 1. Tolerance: In any career (and in life), you will work with people you don’t understand or agree with. Learning how to be tolerant and understanding at a young age sets children up for success in these situations. 2. Advacosy: No Place For Hate is student driven. This helps students not only build confidence but also learn how to advocate for themselves and their community. 3. People Skills: This program encourages discussion and connection. Students build meaningful bonds that could benefit them down the road, and they learn how to interact in a respectful manner. I encourage everyone to urge your local schools to adopt No Place For Hate, or a similar program. Help create better school environments for kids, and encourage them to create a better future. #equity #education #equality

Thanks to Dr. Tim Powers of Pinkerton Academy for sharing how their school creates connection, even with 3000+ students. A few takeaways? 1. When making a change, include all voices. 2. You can have a big campus, but still help students feel belonging by creating daily scheduled time for small group connection, and extra help. 3. When adding a flex period - make it a part of the school day, not an option added to the beginning or end of the day. Providing access means it has to be a time when all students can actually access it. Link to the full episode in the comments! #K12 #studentcentered #reimaginetime

What features would be cool in the app? What kind of events do you want in your feed? What’s stopping your from hosting/attending events right now? These are all questions we were eager to talk about at last weeks focus group. We want to build an app that’s perfect for students and these conversations get us closer to completing that goal! Let’s Muv ✌️
Last week, we sat down with a group of students from Gonzaga who had joined the waitlist. Over pizza, we talked about the core functionality, features, and possibilities for Muv. These discussions are SO helpful in designing an app that we know will be helpful to students. Key Takeaways from the Convo: Students do want to be more involved in campus life, yet often don’t have a good sense of “what the move” is. How popular an event is on campus matters a lot when deciding what to do. Focusing more on university-hosted events could be more helpful for students than spotlighting events off-campus. A huge thank you to the people that came to this first focus group. If you want to join the next time we get together or have any other ideas, join the waitlist and reach out! We’d love to chat more. 🙌 #studentstartup #whatsthemuv
