In the U.S. alone, around 90% of our $4.1 trillion in healthcare spending — 17% of GDP, up from 5% in 1960 — is for the treatment of chronic and mental health conditions. A staggering 129 million Americans have at least one chronic condition, and in 2023, eight chronic conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, depression and diabetes, hit all-time highs. Thrive AI Health Coach targets five components of your lifestyle: sleep, nutrition, fitness, stress management, and social activity. Make no mistake, I think this can be a game changer for lots of people. Health & wellness is a lifetime effort. An AI can tell each of us what to do, what to eat, when to sleep, who to hang out with all day (based on data/metrics), but even with all that information readily available, people still have free-will and will still make their own choices. Prime example: when my Garmin watch tells me to take a rest day, but I decide I want to workout or go for a walk because it's beautiful outside and I'm feeling good... that's what I'm talking about. Examples include personalized entertainment, self-study and education, happiness and wellness, creativity and self-expression, self-mental exploration and research, and debate and critical thinking. Joy and happiness are distinct emotions, with happiness being a broader concept encompassing positive emotions like joy, contentment, and satisfaction. AI can enhance joy by automating tasks, providing personalized recommendations, and offering virtual companionship. The hierarchy of needs in market economics ranks human needs in the following order: Survival, Sustainability, Safety, Health, Happiness, and Risk Aversion. Estimates suggest that Happiness (Joy, Fulfillment) currently accounts for 5-15% of the global market share. If AI is adopted worldwide, the distribution may shift, with Happiness (Joy, Fulfillment) potentially increasing to 25%. This shift would prioritize happiness, fulfillment, and risk aversion as AI takes over routine tasks. However, actual market shares may fluctuate based on various factors.

(Post 1 of 3) Abundance360 last week "the Great AI Debate" was inspiring and thoughtful. This is the 1st in a series of posts with my take-aways, but I want to start with my take-intos.  Here's where I'm coming from: TECH, TECH, TECH 20+ years in Tech (15 in consumer software, 10 in venture-building Transformative Technology). Transformative Tech supports mental, social and emotional health, making it easier to be healthy inside and out.  In 2014, this was crazy-talk. Since then, I've worked with thousands of tech founders globally. Top brands in fitness, wellness, and wellbeing tech found key partners at my events. Today, I’m a tech investor through NIREMIA Collective to further grow these technologies. HEALING + GROWTH I've pondered the human condition, who we are, and how to become our fullest selves. I've done my share of therapy, emotional inquiry, growth work, somatic practices, circling, and coaching.  Today, I’m a Trustee for California Institute of Integral Studies, one of the oldest universities that studies how people evolve.   With perspective from both Tech and Human Development, I believe that to successfully navigate this AI transition, we must deepen as humans.  AI AND THE HUMAN CONDITION Fear doesn't make great decisions, but prudence can. "Pure Optimism" obscures downside risk, preventing important mitigations (hello social media!), while "Pure Pessimism" is just as dangerous, obscuring opportunity and preventing the building of real pathways to help people transition to the new age. It's hard to lay bricks if you're standing around wringing your hands. The path is in the middle, seeing both opportunities and risks, WHILE building bridges for real people. This requires a kind of hope rarely associated with tech. Pessimists say AI and Tech are too powerful to be shaped for good, but history shows that hope stands fierce in the face of asymmetric power. Hope continues to march, fight for freedom, pass legislation, invest in future generations, and insist there's a future worth fighting for. To have hope, you must believe in people and their ability to learn, change, and grow. This requires a kind of love rarely associated with tech. This transition isn't about tech, it's about people.  Today, I’m the Executive-In-Residence for SHRM because we’re focused on activating the HR function to support human-centered change management for human-AI enablement. To build paths for reinventing work to help expand jobs vs. pure optimization. This excerpt from Oriah Mountain Dreamer's "The Invitation" captures this AI moment for me: "It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children." Feed the children indeed. It is no secret that many tech bilionnaires have a strong interest in longevity. Peter Thiel, Jeff Bezos, Marc Zuckerberg are just a few of them that are known to have invested in longevity-focused companies. They are adamant to fight aging, and are taking supplements and adopt fitness regimes that are known to support healthy aging. Two other tech giants, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman and Thrive Global CEO Arianna Hufington have now joined foces and just launched Thrive AI Health, which will develop an AI health coach to give personalized health recommendations using people’s biometrics and lifestyle habits as references. “We talk about AI normally in terms of productivity, taking the drudgery out of work. These are, of course, very important applications of AI,” Huffington, founder and CEO of Thrive Global, a behavior change platform, tells Fortune. “But ultimately, what matters is how AI helps us fundamentally improve our health spans and life spans."
