Stigma and discrimination related to mental health conditions are widespread and harmful. Reducing stigma and discrimination can benefit families, societies and economies – it can save lives. On World Mental Health Day, the WHO launched a toolkit designed for anyone who wants to be involved in anti-stigma work, aiming to demystify the process of reducing stigma and discrimination. It aims to make it easier for individuals and organizations who have not yet undertaken evidence-based anti-stigma activities to begin that process in their context.

Happy International Day of Care and Support! ❤️🩹 It can be easy to forget that carers also need caring for, so this day is all about recognizing the incredible contributions of caregivers and the importance of support systems in our communities. It’s a time to reflect on the vital role that care plays in our lives and understand how we can better support those who give so much of themselves. This is a small snippet from our Insta live with the lovely Anna Kydd, Co-Founder and Director of Ember Mental Health, which explores the misconception of how we often see carers as superheroes and, therefore, less susceptible to downturns of their own wellbeing. However, carers too are real people with their own emotional and life challenges who also need to be supported in their wellbeing and cared for. Ember Mental Health is doing incredible work to address this misconception through their Ember Wellbeing Fund and caring for the carer. A big shoutout to the British Asian Trust for a successful launch of their new campaign, 'Milkar, Ao Baat Karein' (Come together to talk about mental health). This nationwide campaign, aims to raise awareness around and de-stigmatise mental health in Pakistan. Mental health remains a hugely stigmatised topic in Pakistan and so this is a huge achievement, which will have significant ripple effects throughout the country! 👏👏👏 Read more about the launch here: https://lnkd.in/ea4NTF-a Richard Hawkes

Great report by Fozia Irfan OBE calling on a new form of philanthropy: Transformative Philanthropy. "Transformative philanthropy is not merely a concept but it is a call to act differently. It places at its heart, principles of social justice but also includes a number of other dimensions necessary for social change. It is a concerted effort to recognise the failings of traditional philanthropy and build a new paradigm which reimagines the place we inhabit, the role we play and the values we embody. In this report, Fozia explains how philanthropy can and should transcend mere charity or goodwill and become a catalyst for social transformation, and provides guidance on how we can get there. Happy reading! https://lnkd.in/eDQKEb24
