There is a growing primary care physician shortage. Estimates project a deficit of nearly 100,000 by 2030. Pharmacies are becoming preferred access points, and many states are passing laws that enable pharmacists to be providers and mandate service reimbursement. But, pharmacists need a mechanism for documenting care and billing insurance. Pharmacies can become a one-stop shop for patients — pharmacists administering vaccines, testing, treating common conditions, and prescribing medications. Pharmacists can also manage patients with multiple medications, providing regular check-ins and monitoring conditions like diabetes. About a year ago, I had a meeting with Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and we discussed the incidence of vaccines errors within community Pharmacy. One thing I pointed out was the fact that vaccines are not scanned before administration. And yes , I know that errors can happen at any moment in the process. But studies have shown that barcodes scanning helps reduce the incidence of errors. And what is even more interesting is how Chains are not willing to share their data for errors and to work with other entities in order to help triages the why errors and to help develop practices protocols which can decrease those statistics. How can we improve patient care and even protect our practitioners when we can’t even access the data?

Their unlawful and pernicious practices have collectively undermined the 340B program and harmed patient care. At the same time, we have concerns regarding other aspects of this discussion draft that should be better aligned to reflect the operational realities that 340B hospitals face every day. Therefore, our comments primarily focus on how Congress can ensure that the 340B program continues to benefit patients and communities, while protecting against any unnecessary harm or burden that would jeopardize patient care”. 📢 Important Update for Health Care Providers, Compounders, and Patients The FDA has issued an alert regarding dosing errors associated with compounded injectable semaglutide products. The most prominent issue...dosing errors. Patients taking up to 20 times the recommended amount. Medication dosing errors; healthcare providers included. When I ask patients who currently take compounded medications, "What's your current dose?" Response is "25 units" Instead of "0.25 mg" Health care providers should closely monitor their patients and educate patients about the potential risks associated with compounded products.
