We proudly celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth and pay homage to Black individuals' extensive contributions throughout history. As the preeminent member organization dedicated to fostering the growth of Global Black leaders, it is our responsibility to utilize our platforms to amplify their achievements, offering a voice and serving as a source of inspiration for the next generation. Our dedication to this effort is not confined to a single month but rather interwoven into our mission. Black History is American History and a reminder that we are all part of a shared narrative. Let us reflect on the enduring values of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) that continue to shape our world. Although progress has been made, it's crucial to recognize that the struggle for equality persists. Recent events have shown that only by working together can we create a world where everyone is recognized for their talents and has the freedom to pursue their dreams. “We have no hope of solving our problems without harnessing the diversity, the energy, and the creativity of all our people.” – Roger Wilkins, famed civil rights leader and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist.

Today marks the start of Black History Month, a time to celebrate and honor the rich contributions of the Black community. While many engage in various activities to show support, it's crucial to acknowledge the challenges faced by Black individuals, especially in professional settings. Despite significant progress in higher education attainment, Black women often encounter doubt about their expertise and leadership skills. They're held to stringent standards, requiring meticulous plans and accountability, while their counterparts do not face the same expectations. Black individuals tirelessly work to produce positive outcomes, only to see their counterparts take credit for their efforts. Let's acknowledge the catalyst role Black individuals play in driving innovation and engagement, setting the stage for statistical gains. This Black History Month, let's reflect on our roles as partners and allies. Ask yourself, "Am I doing my best to support and uplift?" or "Should I share the credit or acknowledge others' contributions?" If not, let's explore ways to be more effective allies and advocates! Happy Black History Month! ❤️ #BlackHistoryMonth #EqualityInLeadership #Dr.Antoinette"Bonnie"Candia-Bailey

Black History Month was first celebrated in 1915. Its founder was Carter G. Woodson who wanted to begin to celebrate the achievements, contributions, and heritage of Black Americans. Recognition and awareness are outrageously important in and out of the workplace. As we continue to navigate how to make the workplace a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment, we must continue to recognize and learn about the history of racial inequality and fight to eradicate racism in and out of the workplace. Celebrating Black History Month during the month of February each year is an opportunity for organizations to come together to learn. Ideas to help you get started are: - Survey your employees and ERGs would like to be involved - Partner with DEIB experts and host events throughout the month - Partner with Black Owned Businesses in the community to support the local community and uplift voices - Choose to make an impact at organizations that support the Black Community - Provide a platform for employees who would like to share stories and/or lead events If you have DEIB partners that you can consult with to create a thoughtful plan, we encourage you to collaborate with them!
