Armenian telco Ovio launches data center outside Yerevan Armenian telecom company Ovio has inaugurated its first data center in Abovyan, Armenia. Situated 16km from Yerevan, the capital, this facility boasts an IT capacity of 2MW across 200 racks. Ovio highlighted that the data center is powered by a 35kW substation, with a second 110kW substation under construction. Additionally, the facility is equipped with a backup cooling system and Tier III-quality equipment. Faramazyan noted that the construction of the data center has led to the creation of hundreds of jobs. The Armenian government approved the data center, incorporating it into the country's “Infrastructure for Investments” program. Established in 2007, Ovio, also known as GNC-ALFA CJSC, runs a fiber-optic network linking Armenia to Iran, Georgia, and Europe. As one of Armenia’s leading telecom and cloud service providers, Ovio's network covers 80 percent of the country.
