News! LanzaJet has secured a strategic investment from Airbus, the global leader in aerospace and commercial aircraft manufacturing. This investment marks LanzaJet’s first from an aircraft OEM, reinforcing the critical role of OEMs in accelerating the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (#SAF).
Airbus has set ambitious targets for its fleet. Their aim for aircraft to fly on up to 100% SAF by 2030 demonstrates their leadership and commitment to environmental responsibility. LanzaJet is poised to scale the deployment of our ethanol-to-SAF technology and expand our production capabilities around the globe.
Airbus joins several new investors across the SAF value chain that LanzaJet has brought on this year, including Southwest Airlines, Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund, Groupe ADP, and MUFG. To learn more about our latest investment, find our press release in the comments.

Absolutely thrilled to see this partnership come to fruition! I believe LanzaJet's innovative ethanol-to-SAF technology is a game-changer, and together, we hope to make strides in reducing the carbon footprint of air travel.
Is Airbus banking on corn based ethanol to SAF priced significantly higher than petroleum jet fuel? Scalable biomass based ATJ is 10 years away at an even higher price premium.
Hands-on Tech-driven Executive. I'm happy to drive business growth through strategic Sales and Marketing, sustainable innovations, and impactful solutions.
At LanzaJet, we say "Someday is Now" because we can immediately reduce the carbon impact of aviation by using our waste-based aviation fuel as a "drop in" alternative (sustainable aviation fuel - SAF) to the over 90 Billion gallons of fossil fuel used currently. It also summarizes the speed at which we are delivering on commitments we make to ourselves, to our partners and investors, and to our communities.
"Someday is Now" shows up in the last six months when LanzaJet:
- wrapped up a financing round that included investments from world class companies involved in the key facets of the sustainable aviation fuels value chain -- airline Southwest Airlines, project financier MUFG, airport operator Groupe ADP Airport Services, technology provider and climate visionary Microsoft, and now -- the largest aircraft maker, Airbus;
- is named one of Time100 Most Influential Companies;
- signed a key international licensing agreement for a renewable fuel facility --Jet Zero Australia -- which is leading that country and continent to a sustainable energy independent future;
- opened the first next generation SAF plant anywhere in over 10 years, delivering on promises for jobs and a new tech hot spot in a rural Georgia community; and
- built out our competencies by growing our employee team in Illinois, Georgia, and elsewhere in the world;
- announced CirculAir, a clear path to convert waste carbon into fuel at scale.
Thanks to earlier investors and partners Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Suncor, Shell, British Airways, ANA, and LanzaTech for recognizing the urgency required by climate change and providing us the opportunity and resources to deliver on our mission.

The public, and the next generation of aerospace engineers, expects to see the most ambitious plans possible from the industry.
Whilst the following reposted statement is probably true, it is not something we should be proud of. Hydrogen is now a hairsbreadth the other side of impossible, and we should seize this opportunity, to push the envelope as fast and hard as humanly possible, gripping the greatest challenge the aircraft industry has ever faced with both hands now, not leaving it to the next generation.
I want to be lying awake at night worrying about missing the opportunity to help design the world’s first hydrogen aircraft, not lying awake worrying about how far away our next opportunity to implement it could be.
Airbus has great ambitions, and is working concretely towards them. But I’m afraid it is my belief that this vague, hand-waving ‘long-termism’ must be stamped out within the industry. For too long, ‘longer term’ has been an excuse to defund the innovations we need, refuse to plan for them, and continue with the status quo. It is high time we stopped using the phrase in relation to net zero and ditched it in favour of concrete dates and commitments.
Until we do, I’m afraid to say the future is behind schedule.
Thanks Julie Kitcher for spelling it out so clearly: “Fuel-efficient aircraft, improvements to air traffic management and operations, and sustainable aviation fuel will combine to provide most of the initial reductions before 2050,” said Kitcher. “In the short- to medium-term, carbon offsetting will play a role, starting with nature-based solutions and progressing to technology-based solutions. Hydrogen will transform aviation over the long-term.”
Today marks the first ever collaboration 🤝 between the #ZEROe project and an operating #lessor!
Airbus and Avolon will investigate how future hydrogen-powered #aircraft could be financed and commercialised, leveraging the leasing business model to support this #lowcarbon transition.
In an industry that faces significant #decarbonisation challenges, it's crucial to unite leading players. Avolon's expertise and worldwide leadership in aircraft leasing make them an invaluable #partner. By working together, we aim to pave the way for a low carbon future in #aviation, ensuring that the transition to #hydrogen power is commercially viable and beneficial for airline customers.

Batteries, hydrogen, SAF. What is the solution?
With battery technology not yet capable of long range flight, is hydrogen the key to a successful transition to sustainable aviation?
Or is sustainable aviation fuel the next step forward? Either solution will require a huge infrastructure investment.

Airbus, easyJet and Rolls-Royce set out UK’s strategy to lead hydrogen industry
A group of aviation heavyweights that came together in September 2023 to form the Hydrogen in Aviation alliance (HIA) have set out the UK’s strategy to lead the global hydrogen industry and build a $43 billion income.
On March 18, 2023, Airbus, easyJet, Rolls-Royce, Ørsted, GKN Aerospace, Bristol Airport and ZeroAvia published the Milestone Delivery Report that sets out how to ensure the UK has the “right conditions for the technological development, regulation, infrastructure, financial framework and hydrogen supply that will be needed for hydrogen aviation”.
According to a statement accompanying the report the alliance said that the UK is home to many world-first advances in hydrogen-powered aircraft technology from hydrogen engine testing to the first flights of hydrogen-fueled planes so is well placed to become a global leader in the technology.
