Proven technology creating sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel from recycled waste and low carbon sources

About us

LanzaJet is a leading sustainable fuels technology company dedicated to accelerating the energy transition by embracing the circular economy. We are making safe, sustainable fuels from waste and low carbon sources a reality today. We are both an established Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) technology provider, and a sustainable fuels producer. Our patented technology, combined with our extensive know-how and deeply experienced team, makes sustainable fuels a reality today. Through the use of our patented LanzaJetTM Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) technology, we are able to create SAF and renewable diesel from waste-based and sustainable ethanol sources. These sources include ethanol created from feedstocks such as low-carbon sugarcane, energy crops, forest residuals, agricultural wastes, and organic waste, just to name a few. There are even existing commercial pathways through our founder, LanzaTech, that can utilize industrial waste gases to create ethanol. With such a widely available starting point, feedstock is readily available and accessible around the world. In this way, we are creating a global, fully circular, carbon recycling economy to enable the decarbonization of the aviation and transportation industries. LanzaJet was formed through the contributions of our investors which include LanzaTech, Suncor Energy Inc., Shell, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., and British Airways and participation from ANA and Breakthrough Energy. The backing from these organizations is significantly accelerating LanzaJet’s commercial deployment, and is demonstrating a joint commitment to creating a resilient, lower carbon future. Exciting development in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF)!    Air New Zealand and LanzaJet have unveiled promising findings from our joint study on the feasibility of producing SAF and renewable diesel in New Zealand. The study highlights that using woody waste residues and low-value exported wood products as feedstocks can meet a quarter of New Zealand’s domestic aviation fuel needs, with a potential lifecycle emissions reduction of over 70% compared to fossil jet fuel. At the heart of this study is the CirculAir™ process, our joint solution with LanzaTech, which can convert nearly any source of waste carbon into ethanol and then into SAF.    Our new study reveals that SAF development in New Zealand not only enhances fuel security and supports the country’s emissions goals, but it also offers significant economic benefits, including the creation of regional jobs and contributing hundreds of millions of dollars to the economy.    Realizing this potential requires the right policy environment to attract needed investment. We’re committed to working with Air New Zealand and other stakeholders to build the necessary ecosystem for SAF production in Aotearoa. We look forward to continuing this important work and exploring additional feedstocks, like municipal solid waste, to further strengthen SAF production in the region.    Read more about our new study in the New Zealand Herald: https://lnkd.in/g8ZXp-g5 #sustainability #cleanenergy #circulareconomy #energysecurity #forestry #ethanol #aviation #NewZealand

Reps. Brad Schneider (IL-10), Dan Kildee (MI-08), and Julia Brownley (CA-26) have introduced a new bill to expand the clean fuel production credit under Section 45Z, furthering the push to decarbonize aviation through sustainable fuels. LanzaJet CEO Jimmy Samartzis provided a statement applauding the leadership of Reps. Schneider, Kildee, and Brownley, emphasizing the importance of tax incentives in driving domestic investment in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF). “SAF is the single most important method to decarbonize aviation in the coming decades, and LanzaJet applauds the leadership of Representatives Schneider, Kildee, and Brownley in advancing SAF tax incentives that will catalyze domestic investment in this critical sector. As the original sponsors of the IRA’s SAF Blender’s Tax Credit via the Sustainable Skies Act, Reps Schneider, Kildee, and Brownley continue to lay the foundation for a vibrant U.S. SAF industry by providing for ten years of policy certainty for domestic SAF producers via this important bill. We look forward to continuing to work with Representatives Schneider, Kildee, and Brownley to develop policy proposals that will both extend and enhance the IRA’s short term SAF tax credits and enable achievement of the goals of the SAF Grand Challenge.”    Read Representative Schneider's press release here: https://lnkd.in/gbdYS6vw #sustainability #cleanfuel #aviation #IRA #45Z #SAFGrandChallenge

Our Vice President, Government Affairs, Policy, and Sustainability Alex Menotti recently participated in the Clean Energy Ministerial at G20 Brasil 2024. Alex presented policy recommendations from the B20 Brasil’s Energy Transition and Climate Change Task Force, co-chaired by our CEO Jimmy Samartzis. The recommendations focused on mechanisms to leverage sustainable biomass and biofuels to address climate change, including: ▪ Establishing blending mandates to promote the use of sustainable fuels, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF)  ▪ Implementing policies to promote global and diversified bioenergy supply chains   ▪ Setting up regulations and providing investments to scale new bioenergy applications like SAF    At LanzaJet, we recognize that tackling global energy and climate challenges requires coordinated efforts across borders and sectors. By focusing on solutions that de-risk the sustainable fuel industry, we aim to build a robust foundation for a future of cleaner energy, economic growth, and global security. #sustainability #energy #bioenergy #cleantech #circulareconomy #climate #B20 #G20 #Brazil #SomedayIsNow

Our CEO Jimmy Samartzis recently delivered a keynote address at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) World Sustainability Symposium in Miami. Speaking to an audience of aviation industry leaders and policymakers, Jimmy shared insights on enabling the transition of an 80-year-old fossil fuel industry to a future powered by Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF). During his speech, he emphasized the need to continue progress towards de-risking a complex global ecosystem that requires leading edge technology to produce drop-in sustainable fuels, policy to enable the development of a new industry, investment with billions of dollars to build new infrastructure, demand to use sustainable fuels to achieve the industry’s ambitious target of net-zero emissions by 2050, and consumers (individuals and corporates) who are willing to pay a premium for cleaner fuels. LanzaJet believes in partnerships to de-risk the development of this emerging industry and strengthen the entire value chain. By utilizing innovative financing and blended capital, LanzaJet exemplifies how to de-risk technology and reduce the risk of stakeholders across the SAF ecosystem to develop SAF projects like our Freedom Pines Fuels biorefinery in Soperton, Georgia, the world’s first ethanol-to-SAF production plant. SAF plants are not just about addressing climate change – they often solve for other needs such as energy security, economic development, national security, and energy independence. The SAF industry has a long way to go to achieve its net zero ambition by 2050. Urgency is required today to continue to deploy capital and new technology to advance the market. Governments play a vital role in enabling this new market with supportive policy. We continue to see development of the voluntary markets which are proving helpful in these early days. The future of building this new industry and these global markets is bright – driven by commitment, partnership, and action. SAF is continuing to scale and we’re excited about the growth of LanzaJet and the ethanol-to-SAF pathway to contribute substantially to its growth. #sustainability #cleanenergy #energysecurity #economicdevelopment #aviation #Miami #IATA #WSS
