When Americans commonly know their history, then #BlackHistoryMonth will not just be proudly celebrated by Black Americans. Non-Black Americans will celebrate Black History Month with nearly as much pride because they will know they have benefited from longstanding Black struggles to make freedom, equality, and democracy a reality for Black Americans by making it real for all Americans. When we say Black history is American history, it is not a slogan. It is a historical reality.

While the schools and banks claim Black History is learned only during one month, I feel very differently. Black history should be celebrated every day, and it is a priority for me and my team to consistently be elevating the black voices in my community and learning where our gaps are to better serve our clients. If you are an advisor (or client!) looking for resources on how to improve your inclusivity and support, here are a few I have found very helpful: - https://lnkd.in/e-RsTGhf -I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou - How to explain Black History to Your Children https://lnkd.in/eMxNRXTD Any resources you would like to add? Chief Inclusion, Belonging & Equity Officer at DeVry University | Global DEI Leader | Advancing Community & Belonging
Black History Month is a time to spotlight and celebrate the honorable contributions, achievements, and culture of Black Americans and their communities. However, these efforts should be applied year-round. Fortunately, at DeVry, we can lean into our business resource groups, including the Association of Black Colleagues (ABC), to enable continuous learning by going deeper into discussions and making meaningful connections. From my perspective, as a collective – organizations, businesses, and society as a whole – can acknowledge and support the significance of Black History beyond the month of February. #BlackHistoryMonth Learn more here: https://devry.ly/3T3PCcn

Black history. Celebrated every February. Originally in America. And now, by the whole world. But most people don’t realise that this is a problem. Black Americans make up only 4% of the world's Black population (1.2 billion), and yet America is seen as the benchmark for Blackness by most people in the Western world. Why should we only celebrate our universal Blackness in one month of the year when we are who we are every day? Just as we believe there is no "i" in "thjnk", we have a campaign for the true representation of ALL Black people to change this cultural perspective. Introducing #blackthinkers, a film that challenges the current narrative around the celebration of Black history with an encouraging new message: Black history is every single day.
