Dear Aviators (and non aviators this time) , you are privileged. The fact that you have access to this platform right now, the fact that you are reading my words right now proves that you AND I are privileged. We are privileged.
It baffles me to see that many people , especially on this platform, either forget or completely disregard the whole concept of privilege.
You accepting that fact that, you and I are privileged, doesn’t take away or alter the amount of hard work most of us had to undergo in order to get to where we are now. It does not take away the amount of pain we endured along the way, nor the losses and sacrifices we had to make in our own individual journeys.
We might be less privileged than some, more privileged than others but again, we are privileged.
What makes you think that there isn’t other people out there who don’t have the same drive, passion, skills and demeanour to achieve what you have achieved (and probably more) if only they had access to better educational systems, if they came from more politically stable countries , if they had stronger passports perhaps etc etc…
I’m a scholarship student since my primary education, I was able to excel academically enough to maintain my scholarship status then later get awarded an aviation scholarship that I would have never afforded to study. I also finished engineering school with excellence , and here I am today saying that despite that, I am well aware of my privilege.
Do you remember how you felt when you achieved your dreams? Now take that feeling and multiply it by 100. This is how you would also feel if you helped others reach their dreams.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, use your privilege for a good cause. Be realistic before you start throwing off irrational advises to those who need more than just a pep talk. Sometimes I hear comments being said to other people that give off the same vibes as “Just get a job”. When In reality, to get a job , you need multiple other things to be considered and fulfilled prior to that. And sometimes only you and I ( other privileged people too) can lend a helping hand.
