Alhamdulillah! Hope you are all fine! I have just completed my internship at a renowned complex in Pakistan, the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra. First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to each and every person who was there to teach and guide me during my internship. So, what was this internship about? Well, we went there to study and observe the production, repair, various testing and implementation of avionics in the JF-17 Thunder and mushshak aircraft. It was, all in all, a great journey. We learned a lot about avionics and how all the systems cooperate with each other to perform their tasks. At the Singapore Airshow on February 20, 2024, Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and Leonardo inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement signifies their joint commitment to advancing technology innovation, nurturing talent, and enhancing the long-term supportability of Leonardo systems utilized by the Singapore Armed Forces. Under the MOU, DSTA will collaborate with Leonardo – one of the market leaders in designing and supplying systems and products for naval defence and maritime surveillance – in harnessing the company’s expertise in naval gun and underwater technologies to explore use cases for Singapore’s context. DSTA also aims to nurture local talent through internship programmes and technical domain courses in areas of Leonardo’s expertise. In addition, both parties will explore building technical support to enhance the system service level further. DSTA’s Deputy Chief Executive (Operations) Mr Roy Chan said, “DSTA continues to be focused in delivering cutting-edge solutions through innovation and bolstering the technical proficiencies of our people. The NSRI #strategicdeterrence interns focused on research for joint electromagnetic spectrum operations (JEMSO) recently presented to Lockheed Martin leaders. Gael Perez, an electrical engineering major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, said he and his peers considered the experience a "pivotal moment" in their professional development. Their research aims to create technology that will significantly reduce or eliminate unwanted radio frequency (RF) signals within a defined spectrum. Considering how crowded the RF environment is becoming with wireless communications, doing this will better improve both the clarity and reliability of priority DOD signals. The interns' presentation was a culmination of weeks of preparation, and the feedback from Lockheed Martin was constructive and encouraging, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. It emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and storytelling in presentations and motivated the interns to enhance their skills further, incorporating feedback into practice sessions, focusing on audience engagement, and seeking guidance to ensure impactful presentations. "Beyond developing our professional skills, this experience underscored the value of collaboration and teamwork," Gael said. "By pooling our diverse expertise and perspectives, we were able to craft a presentation and a well-detailed conference paper that was greater than the sum of its parts. "Working at NSRI has been an incredible journey, particularly in presenting complex briefings to industry leaders with the guidance of our coordinator, Chris Luther. Recently I applied for an apprenticeship at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited(HAL), a crucial player in India's airpower, serving as the backbone of India's airpower and I secured a one-year apprenticeship at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. I was thrilled to secure a one-year apprenticeship, but unfortunately, I had to let go 😥 of the opportunity because of ongoing commitments in my B. Tech semester and college commitments. I had to make the difficult decision to let go of this incredible opportunity. I'm feeling quite sad and regretful about missing such a valuable offer. The regret is undeniable. HAL is not just any company; it's a national treasure. Established in 1940, it has spearheaded India's ascent in the aerospace and defence sector. From designing and building fighter jets and helicopters to crafting engines and avionics, HAL stands as the backbone of India's air power. The UK's booming aerospace industry, which contributed over £30 billion to the economy last year, now employs more than 104,000 people. The new figures are part of a wider report released by trade association ADS Group which reveals the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors added £38.2bn in value to the UK economy in 2023 - growth of 50% in the last 10 years. Employment across aerospace, defence, security and space is up almost a third (29%) on 2013 figures, with 427,500 people employed in the sectors. Of these roles, 23,000 are apprenticeships.
