A brand-new mattress can be a life-changing gift for many. It is a big expense that can be out of reach for vulnerable families or individuals, with many opting for alternatives such as sharing a single mattress or sleeping on the floor. This is especially true for families facing circumstances such as fleeing domestic violence, displacement due to natural disasters, or recovering from homelessness. Can your business donate brand-new, high-quality mattresses to communities in need? Otherwise, donating money or simply sharing the word can make a difference. Bikes for Kids Wisconsin • Dane County Parks Commissioner • Sault Tribe Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) • Former Alder City of Monona
Something happened this year at Bikes for Kids WI, the floodgates opened and we saw a steady stream of people in need of low-cost transportation who were unable to afford bikes on their own, more than ever before. The 2,500 bikes we've given away in 2024 have been distributed to all people in need, not just kids. Giving bikes to kids under the age of 11 is a critical part of our work because, if you don't have a bike as a kid, you won't have one as an adult. Beyond age 11, kids are often too embarrassed to learn to ride and they become focused on cars as transportation although they've yet to learn how expensive it is to own a car as those costs go far beyond the initial price of the vehicle. And yes, kids do use their bikes for economic mobility. Kids are often eager to work but when you're too young to drive, a bike provides access to those opportunities. They also help kids get to school and they reduce truancy for many of the kids we serve. Bikes provide access to opportunities. They are so much more than just a recreational option for the people we serve--they are a lifeline. Operation Fresh Start became a new distribution partner for us this year and that's how we connected to Calio and King, the two boys who helped us reach the new milestone of 2,500 bikes given away in 2024. I'll drop a photo of the boys and their bikes in the comments. You will love seeing those smiles! 😊 #transportation #economicmobility #independence #freedom #opportunities #healthyfamilies #healthykids
We just reached a new milestone in 2024—we have now distributed 2,500 bicycles this year alone. That puts our total since 2017 to 12,500 bicycles distributed to financially challenged people in the state of Wisconsin. 💥 If you would like to support our work, you can make a financial donation at bikesforkidswi.org or you can volunteer with us here at the bike center. Thank you to all our donors, community partners, and volunteers who’ve helped make this work possible. The Foundation Day of Beggars Corporation offers a powerful lens through which to examine our approach to #Unemployment and #entrepreneurship in #India. This initiative challenges our conventional wisdom, asking: If those with nothing can become entrepreneurs without external support, why do our educated youth struggle for employment ? The stark contrast presented here is thought-provoking. Beggars, lacking basic necessities and formal credentials, are transforming into entrepreneurs without relying on charity, investments,or government aid.Meanwhile, our #Youth having everything, face persistent unemployment ! This paradox forces us to question our current #EmploymentPolicies and #EducationalSytems. Are we equipping our youth with the right skills and mindset for today's job market ? Are our policies creating dependency rather than fostering innovation and self-reliance ? Beggars Corporation model is a call to action for policy makers to rethink our employment strategies, focussing on cultivating an entrepreneurial spirit and practical skills . Successful strategies don't always require complex economic models, but rather a nuanced understanding of ground realities and the courage to implement unconventional ideas.

We're chuffed to say the Big Knit is coming back in 2025. We'll be donating 30p to Age UK for every bottle we sell that has a little hat on it. Since 2003, we've raised £3.2 million for Age UK who help offer support for older people who need it the most. But before we can pop lots of little hats on our smoothie bottles, we actually need little hats to pop on smoothie bottles. 1.4 million to be exact. We know. No biggie at all. So, if you're a knitter, crocheter, or someone with no creative talents at all, we're calling you to knit some little hats and send them to us in Fruit Towers. If you don't know how to knit a hat, or fancy learning how to knit a pineapple instead, you can find all the details on where to start here: https://lnkd.in/edYaF-J6.
