Today is LGBTIQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day... A day when we need to acknowledge that more than 60% of the LGBTQASB+ community report experiencing domestic, family or intimate partner violence. Despite these statistics, the community is less likely to report it to the police, or seek support from services when in crisis. If we do seek support, it's unlikely we'll find support services that meet our needs. The majority of generalist family violence and domestic violence services are poorly equipped to deal with the specifics of LGBTQASB+ family and domestic violence. This is especially the case when dealing with members of community from intersectional backgrounds. Many of these mainstream organizations instead perpetuate a domestic and family violence narrative that is heteronormative, eurocentric, cis-normative, and exclusionary to the queer community. Beneath this exclusion, the system is fraught with the marginalization and ignorance that can cause ongoing lack of access to marginalized groups ... And when we don't feel welcome or included, we won't seek support or report the crimes against us. So today, we should support those organizations that offer specific services to our community members in need. Being an LGBTQ+ ally is about helping to create an inclusive environment where everyone can be themselves. The most recent data from the Stonewall ‘LGBT in Britain Work Report’, found that 35% of LGBTQ+ staff have hidden that they are LGBTQ+ at work, for fear of discrimination. Concerns about being treated differently keep many from being out at work, but allyship increases comfort in being out. June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate diversity, and inclusivity, as well as highlight the ongoing fight for equal rights and opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community. We are proud to stand with and support the incredible work of Mermaids, a charity close to our hearts.   Mermaids is dedicated to supporting transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse children, young people, and their families. We believe that embracing and empowering all members of the trans community is crucial for any organisation, regardless of the industry. This is why we are honoured to fund Mermaids’ local group activities, which create a safe space to celebrate and uplift the community. Jo and the Thornicroft family have felt the benefit of the amazing work of this charity first-hand. The care they have provided, and their unwavering support have been a huge help and immeasurable comfort in such a turbulent and troubled time. We strive to support them, as they have us, in the hope they will be able to continue their important work and care for other families just like ours. The humble journey of the Smiling Rainbow platform begins on February 19, 2019, with only one mission: SHARING PAIN MUST NOT BE EXPENSIVE. Over this period we have provided free counseling to thousands of individuals nationwide. Initially, our platform catered exclusively to members of the LGBTQ+ community. Over time, however, we began to receive inquiries and calls from individuals of various backgrounds. Based on our experience we have observed many trends in society, whereas few trends are ironic and on the other hand few are disturbing. In an attempt to spread awareness, we are going to share many such information in our #NoMotivationOnlyInformation campaign. The purpose of that series is simply to spread information in society instead of motivation.   No one desires to succumb to depression. When individuals find themselves immersed in the depths of despair, all they seek is steadfast support to prevent them from sinking. We aspire to be that unwavering support, by offering a new, comprehensive platform that provides free or affordable counseling for all without discrimination. We did our best for years to ensure  #FreeCounselingServiceForAll. Finally, we had to stop our free counseling service from August 2023 onwards due to a funding constraint.
