🎉 I'm excited to announce that I've completed an online course on "CSI:ME Case Studies in Medical Errors" from Stanford University School of Medicine ! 💬 A medication error is any preventable event that may cause/lead to inappropriate medication use or patient harm while in the control of any health care professional or patient. 💡 The course helped me understand Medical Errors with instances of Case Studies and how to prevent such errors from repeating over the course of time. I'm looking forward to applying what I've learned and spreading mental health awareness. Stanford Online #Stanford #Medicine #MedicalErrors #MedicationErrors #CaseStudies #Learning #Growth

PROVIDE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT! To improve patient experience, medical professionals in all specialties provide emotional support for patients, even in the most difficult situations. Ideal patient care entails a bit of psychology; it requires picking up on cues to determine how open each individual patient is to various types of support. Do they just need you to listen and consider the research they’ve done? Do they want to know you relate and that you’ll accompany them through their struggles? Do they expect honesty and vulnerability when they realize you don’t have all the answers? Would a moment of silence be appropriate? Holding their hand through a teary-eyed moment? Taking care of patients is a science and an art — let instinct and experience guide you. Rather than disrupting your workflow, you’ll see that connecting with the patient will, in the end, enhance it. It will make you feel valued, trusted, and needed. There’s no better way to build loyalty and referrals while reaping the personal rewards of your profession.

For 1st/2nd Gens, what actions and/or inactions around accessing medical care (or any care) that COULD be perceived as resistance, non-compliance or apathy may actually be rooted in lack of support, lack of access (e.g. cultural, language barriers), fear, intergenerational trauma, limited information around certain options, etc. It's so important to look BEYOND our skin (name of the conference) and BEYOND the surface, the immediate actions to help improve 1st and 2nd generation's access to care. When I get to speak in front of professionals about how Intergenerational Trauma and being in The Repay Cycle™, can show up in different ways for 1st/2nd Gens it makes me excited. I am excited to see what we can do to create impact on large and small scales. It was such a great experience discussing ways to strengthen how we can take care of 1st/2nd gens through different lens, and to connect with such great folks with a desire to help others. Thank you @minorityhealthconference for letting me share this amazing space and for such great discussion. A big part of my mission as a social justice educator is to encourage other educators and mental health professionals to see their work as political. But when we do this without first examining and decolonizing our own thinking and training, this becomes dangerous. The medical model teaches us to decontexualize the individual from the larger political, social, cultural, and economic systems in which we live. When we apply medical thinking, to political we get results like the example here, which is in line with the overal problematic response of the medical industrial complex to the situation in the Middle East. Here is one of the most well known mental health professionals in the world today with a wrong, dangerous, and harmful read of the situation which to the average person may seem “reasonable.” Decolonial and liberation psychologies as well as critical pedagogies teach us that we must with a deep understanding of the nature of oppressive relationships. Western medical models on the other hand aim to present such relationships as equal. Entrenched in individualistic thinking, the emphasis in the West is always on personal choice and not systemic issues. Conversely, the solution is always a lone superhero saving the day instead of communities standing in solidarity together in order to change their material conditions. If you are an educator or mental health professional, or you work in any capacity in the healing professions, but you do NOT understand why this video is problematic, and you have NOT taken the time to read and educate yourself away from the medical models in which you were trained, please please please, at the very least, refrain from speaking on political topics. The power and authority you hold because of your position can cause deep trauma to those you seek to help. As much as I want every educator and therapist to engage in politics and to see their work as political, doing so without doing our own shadow work first harms and actually upholds oppression. If you’re interested in learning and understanding, I’ll be starting to share free resources, courses, and other professional development opportunities through my email list soon. #educationispolitical #therapyispolitical ##liberationpsychology #criticalpedagogy #socialjusticeeducation
Esther Perel on Instagram: "These last weeks as I’ve pored over the news, articles, and clinical analysis, a few articles have shifted my perspective or illuminated this crisis in a new way. Amanda Ripley’s review of Peter Coleman’s “intractable conflict” was one such article. It reminded me how embattled we can become in opposition, a phenomenon I see in my office, on social media, and in global
