Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling with a special interest in mental health counseling for individuals with chronic illness & disability (physical/psychiatric).
Presented this poster at the AMERICAN REHABILITATION COUNSELING ASSOCIATION pre-conference symposium in April 2024. Exploring the challenges of fatigue in employment for individuals with #multiplesclerosis (MS), this poster focuses on the experiences of individuals with #MS by utilizing quotes from qualitative studies. Fatigue is the most challenging, ubiquitous, and misunderstood symptom that individuals with MS face regularly. It's difficult to describe and fluctuates on a spectrum. It is paramount that counselors and employers understand its implications and how it feels for these individuals.

An Official Statement from TARA Mind Chief Medical Officer Richard Nockowitz, M.D. “Simply put, TARA Mind has created the most responsible and affordable access to the safest and most personalized delivery of IV Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) available for individuals whose mental health conditions do not improve with traditional treatments. Recently, there’s been inaccurate information circulating about IV-Ketamine Assisted Therapy, creating misperceptions about the safety and benefit of this treatment when delivered responsibly. In fact, decades of real-world experience with thousands of patients treated at the most prestigious academic medical centers and treatment facilities has shown that this therapy is extraordinarily safe, life-changing, and even life-saving. Like any other medical treatment, IV Ketamine-Assisted Therapy should always be delivered in a monitored medical setting by trained, licensed clinicians. When done this way, it is unquestionably safer and more effective for depression, suicidality, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and even substance use disorders, than other currently available treatments. We have a collective responsibility to differentiate between the medically-supervised administration of this highly beneficial treatment and its unfortunate misuse without responsible medical supervision.” #TARAMind #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #HR #WorkplaceWellness

From the outside, it may appear that clinicians approach patients from very different directions. This can be the case even when the clinicians have similar educational pathways. Some know a list of exercises and try to fit the patient onto those exercises. Some will learn exercise programs as they relate to specific diagnoses, and then have difficulty creating programs for the different clinical presentations of that diagnosis. Worse yet, they may be lost when presented with a different diagnosis that they are not familiar. We all can suffer from being locked into our own reality in which patients are forced to fit into our practice comfort zone. To avoid some of these mental traps, one must be able to think beyond his or her reality to perform at the highest level of achievement. Which type of clinician you are Rigid one(one-size-fits-all), Confused or Sorted?

We had a really good book group discussion yesterday about ‘The Myth of Normal’ by Gabor Maté. Huge thanks to Andy Hill @behypnotherapy for hosting it. We began by sharing our one-word reactions to the book which included: ‘unsettling’, ‘revealing’, ‘profound’ and ‘important’. Following our usual format, we discussed what we liked/disliked about the book, implications for clinical practice and for self-care as therapists. We agreed that there were a lot of messages to take from the book both, in client work and personal life. As therapists, it encourages a heightened sensitivity and a compassionate trauma-informed perspective. As parents we all felt it was an important read. For self-care, the book is a reminder of how we all function as ‘shock-absorbers’ to each other in daily life and the value of noticing and responding to our own needs when feeling depleted. You can read our book review on my blog: https://lnkd.in/d43yDuBR Do share your thoughts.

Youth Ministry Expert | Highly Skilled Creative Leader & Communicator | Published Writer | Experienced Youth Pastor | Church Planter | Bookstore Entrepreneur
This TEDMED talk given by Pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris is worth a listen. She's talking about a clinical practice; however, this conversation around "The Adverse Childhood Experiences Study" (ACES) could change how you begin to get to know and support children, teenagers (and families) in the places where you serve. Exposure to early adversity impacts so much in human development. Listen in to educate yourself / your team / your family. Grow in compassion for folks who have real neurologic reasons for behaviors and health challenges. Do you know the ACE scores of the kids/ teenagers in your ministry? How do you get to know their story? Is there a plan to help them find treatments and support? What reference tools do you use to support parents and educated them about toxic stress and the impact of ACES? I would love to know what has been helpful or worked well for you. https://lnkd.in/e6f2A6py
