“Sustainability is now a board level conversation because of the NHS demand for reduction. Where we need to get to is quite hard but we’re going in the right direction, if we keep going at this pace we’ll get there.” - Addie MacGregor, Sustainability Manager at the ABHI on Is HealthTech green tech? #HealthTechIntegrates

International Sales & Marketing Director with a solid track record of sales growth and go to market strategies by improving operational excellence through in field coaching and mentoring.
Sustainability is a theme that is rarely associated with better operational and financial results. At #caresyntax we use our expertise in driving #smart data for better results to improve surgical outcomes and newest technologies to reduce our carbon footprint and leave the world a better place. Thank you #healttech for putting this theme on the agenda and showing how impactful these measures can be.

🔋High energy at health.tech conference . Sharing stage with Peter Coudenys moderated by Jordi Ferrer Rendé 📋While most healthtech startups do not have sustainability at the top of their list at onset, they have the potential to significantly impact their downstream value chain for better - both on Environmental and Social 👩⚕️Healthcare is at core of Human Rights #SDG3. Improving Health is a big “S” impact, and an opportunity to uplift disfavoured groups towards #healthequity 🌡️⚡️Heat, water disruption and weather catastrophes are adding new health needs as we speak 🏭Yet the “E” negative impact of the health sector significant, i.e. the sector is responsible for 4,5% of global emissions. So, there is work to be done! 💚The event was nicely designed to minimize emissions- from meatless lunch to reusable cups and reachable for public transportation - showing WE care. And because we care, I invite you healthtecs to seek your impact along YOUR growth 🍀 #HT24

Your Biggest Carbon Culprits Aren't What You Think Think sustainability is just for the eco-team? Think again. The NHS mandate for carbon reduction plans is changing the game, as we learned in our recent MedTech Expo panel. Addie MacGregor from ABHI, highlighted a crucial point: these plans need board-level sign-off. Suddenly, sustainability isn't a side project—it's a top-level conversation. Richard Cohen from Pennine Healthcare shared an eye-opener: creating their plan revealed unexpected emission sources. It's not just about turning off lights; it's about rethinking entire processes. The energy crisis has made this work even more critical. Companies are finding that sustainability efforts often lead to cost savings and increased efficiency. Here's the takeaway: Sustainability is becoming everyone's business, from the CEO to the newest hire. What surprising insights has your company gained from carbon reduction efforts? #SustainableBusiness #CarbonReduction #HealthcareInnovation #MedTechExpo #SustainableInnovation #HealthcareTech #CircularEconomy #MedTechExpo #sustainability #circularity #design #medtech #netzero #panel #innovatetozero Medilink Midlands Medilink North of England SBRI Healthcare Bionow NIHR for Industry NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Rich Shaw

🌍 Happy Earth Day 🌍 Our planet is facing a serious challenge - the need for sustainable healthcare solutions. The healthcare sector, like many others, has a significant environmental footprint. 💉 Healthcare would rank 5th if it were a country on greenhouse gas emissions. 😷 We produce an enormous amount of waste in disposables (gloves, gowns, packaging, catheters,...). But here's the good news: I am continuously amazed by the transformative power of health technology! On Earth Day, it's fitting to highlight how health technology is playing a pivotal role in controlling our impact on the earth: ⚕ There's a wave of innovation aimed at reducing waste, improving energy efficiency and promoting sustainable practices. ⚕ From telemedicine reducing the need for travel, to AI optimizing efficiencies, to digital health records decreasing paper waste - technology is making healthcare more sustainable. As we celebrate Earth Day, let's keep sustainability in our assessment of the ROI of health technologies and continue to push the boundaries of innovation for a healthier planet. At the end of the day, a healthier planet means healthier people. 💕 #EarthDay #HealthTech #Sustainability #Innovation

In today's world, healthcare is one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions, thanks to the use of energy-intensive medical equipment, transportation for patients and staff, and the production of various medicines. As climate change continues to pose significant threats to our health and well-being, it has become imperative that we take action towards creating a net-zero healthcare system. But how can we achieve this goal? Let's talk about that: https://bit.ly/3GWguEl #NetZero #HealthCare #MedTech #MedicalTechnology

Great to be at the #DigitalHealthOx event on digital health partnerships yesterday AND to have a panel there focused on pathways to net zero Great panel, Caitríona Callan (Health Foundation); Regent Lee (University of Oxford), Tom Dawson (Revolution-ZERO), and Amelia James – chaired by Paul Durrands Key messages across the panel included the need for high impact innovation, and for everyone in the NHS to be readily signposted to the innovations that can get us to net zero. To do this, we need to invest resources to shift to low carbon care models, put sustainability at the core of good leadership (all too easy for it to be ‘crowded out’), ensure major policy levers (e.g. payment systems, regulation) are used to drive progress and net zero goals, and rapidly build the evidence base to enable faster decarbonisation of care (while ensuring that patient outcomes come first). Things are starting to change, but we need spread and scale. Urgently. It remains challenging to really engage people across the NHS with the net zero agenda. The panel flagged three examples of work where this is starting to happen (while noting there are many more): 1. Developing a circular economy, eg displacing single use medical textiles such as surgical masks and aprons, reporting environmental impacts, demonstrating clinical effectiveness and cost savings, and then informing => scale up 2. Enabling sustainable procurement, with all NHS suppliers (from April 2030) required to demonstrate progress through their published report and the new Evergreen Sustainability supplier assessment (see https://lnkd.in/ezzuvwvT 3. Linking with the theme of digital health, using AI to reduce the carbon footprint of CT scans via changes in workflow, reduced use of scanners, and phasing out single use products. My take home from this was that it wasn’t the busiest session of the day and that many of the people who want to innovate, or learn from it and do things differently, weren't in the room. There's clearly significant work to do, to decarbonise and, critically, to engage people with the net zero agenda. As one panel member said “the sooner we start, the bigger the benefits”. #greentech #decarbonisation #netzero #sustainablehealthcare

Imagine a world where every hospital visit also heals the planet. In the bustling corridors of healthcare, a quiet revolution is unfolding. ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) initiatives are not just corporate buzzwords but lifelines that could reshape the future of healthcare. Why does this matter? Because the health sector isn't just about treating patients. It's about creating a sustainable environment that fosters well-being, equity, and ethical governance. When hospitals reduce their carbon footprint, they're not just cutting costs; they're combating climate change. When pharmaceutical companies prioritize diversity and inclusion, they're not just ticking boxes; they're ensuring that treatments are effective across diverse populations. But here's the twist: The ripple effects of ESG initiatives in healthcare extend far beyond the obvious. They're about creating a resilient infrastructure that can withstand global health crises, about fostering innovation that respects our planet and its people, and about building trust in an industry that holds our lives in its hands. Yet, the path is fraught with challenges. Measuring the impact of ESG initiatives is complex. The healthcare sector must navigate regulations, stakeholder expectations, and the monumental task of integrating sustainability into its DNA. The question isn't whether ESG initiatives are important in healthcare. It's whether we can afford to ignore them. Let's start a conversation. Share your thoughts on how the healthcare industry can embrace ESG to not just do well, but to do good. Your insights could light the way to a healthier world.
