This is how our ecosystem approach is helping UK #publicprocurement regionally achieve supplier #socialvalue together: 1) Community needs are consolidated within regional geographies📍 2) A collective focus is created across public procurement on these community needs within defined regional geographies 🔍 3) Commissioning & procurement can harness supplier social value regionally, helping hundreds of suppliers see and contribute to these needs within regional geographies 💶 4) A collective social value is established over the long-term, significantly underpinning how charities continue to service these community needs over time - also meaning supplier social value is validated by benefiting communities. 💥 Outcome: A new transparency of grassroots supplier social return on investment within the hundreds of millions in regional public contracts (taxpayers money). What’s my next move? Recently redundant, taking some time to figure out what I really want to do next. Open to chats ..even better if it’s over a cuppa 🫖 Service Sector / Third Sector / Wild cards
I have to share this by Sophie Randles-Dunkley because it’s exactly the situation that I am in now. My position as Head of Community Fundraising was made redundant and the responsibility for the team was merged into a new role which saw a combined marketing and fundraising split. So the person responsible for developing and building community income is actually a marketing specialist who has responsibility for supporter based marketing and also services marketing. It didn’t make any sense to me, it still doesn’t make any sense to me, but it was non negotiable despite me countering with my suggestions for an income generating team and a comms/marketing team. The lines are still blurred and CF is lost in the midst of it all, which considering there is a deficit in legacy pipeline from cuts made a number of years ago, seems incredibly short sighted. The big issue is more that fundraising is not seen as the engine that drives an organisation. The bosses in the big chair don’t have an interest much less an understanding about the role that not just community fundraising plays but fundraising as a whole. I can count on one hand the number of conversations I had with the Chief Exec and none of them were about anything other than getting collecting tins into places where he had visited and seen a competitor tin and not one of ours. Community Fundraising is the face, the heart and the soul of any charity. Dismiss it at your peril! (Also themed in a Halloween spell type warning!) #fundraising #leadership #workculture #workplaceculture

Without wishing to get all Mystic-Meg about it, I'm going to make a prediction: It's the charities who've retained their UK-wide community fundraisers and a strong events portfolio who will see significant legacy income in 7-15 years' time. We're seeing swathing cuts across our sector right now. And with Trustees and Financial Directors piling on pressure to make cost-cutting decisions based on in-year P&L alone, it's not surprising that leaders are trying to find quick wins. But reducing the national footprint, closing regional offices, and ditching fundraising events activity is going to have a catastrophic effect on long-term awareness and engagement. Please, stop seeing community and events fundraising as an expensive form of income generation and start seeing it as what it really is: THE most cost-effective form of brand activation and awareness your organisation could ever wish for.

How can funders support social mobility? 📈 In this roundtable, community organizations tackled the biggest challenges and strongest interventions for upward mobility, and identified funder interventions that could help move the needle. Like most social issues, it's a complicated web to untangle, from self-belief to career support to reimagining school curricula. Report coming soon, but one thing was clear: We have to tackle this issue systemically if we want to see results. Thanks as always to Westminster Foundation for trusting me and Charly Young MBE to facilitate ✨
Yesterday we held roundtables in #Chester and #Westminster, to explore the themes #Aspirations and #SocialMobility, which are central to empowering young people to reach their potential. 🚀 Throughout 2024, we’re hosting roundtables on our funding areas as part of our strategy refresh. Key themes from our discussions included: 🌟External events such as Covid-19 and the cost-of-living crisis have limited young people’s aspirations and social mobility opportunities. 🌟Embedding career guidance and work experience opportunities into the curriculum is crucial. We need to prioritise and create space for these interventions in schools. 🌟Social mobility charities with aligned objectives are delivering separately, there is an opportunity to increase impact through more collaboration, shared learning and joint funding applications. Thank you to our facilitators Charly Young MBE and Christen Brandt, and to all the charity representatives for their valuable insights and for supporting marginalised young people into good work. Health & Social Care Director/Chairwoman, Non Executive Director/ Business & Managment Consultant |Interim | Troubleshooting | Aquisition and post Aquisition integration | Digital transformation | Model design
Leading on this project with John Heritage and his team at David Lewis Centre has been one of the highlights of my Career. Often Co-production is seen as tokenism or something that we should do. Its is so much more, it is life changing when done properly..It is invigorating to set the conditions to hand the reins and decision making to those with whom the outcomes directly impact. It is the sign of a true Leader that is not afraid to hear what the users of services want, let this actively design the road map of the future and commit to supporting the initiatives they wish to be prioritised. There can be no better achievement than giving those with a Disability a platform to be just as able as anyone else. The humility and cooperation that both of the Co-Chairs have shown to each other and the wider David Lewis beneficiaries , many Chairman and leaders could learn from. Listening to each other, lobbying for the priorities the people they represent have voted for (even if they personally dont favour). Engagement to the cause and the people they have been elected to serve. Never missing or being late to a meeting. NOT having a laptop on or phones vibrating! Communication, understanding through their own experiences that just because some one cannot speak...doesnt mean they dont have something valuable to say. Caring enough to 'hear' using all of the senses. Equitable Status is sitting with the top table, influencing the design and direction of travel and outcomes that are actually wanted. Equity is this perfect balance of shaping the future together with lived experience at the very core. Want a fantastic Exec Team 💐 What a way to keep this wonderful Charity current for the next 100 years. #co-production #co-design #chairmanship #equity #alittlepieceofhistory David Lewis Centre @maria@flanagan-associates.co.uk 💐
Today was definitely one of the highlights of my time David Lewis Centre as Chief Executive - the first joint meeting of the Exec Team (and some guests!) and the Two joint Chairs (paid roles) of the People we support Council. Great to talk about the key priorities the Council and its members from across our charity have identified as important to them and how we can together take them forward. Huge amount of work by our two co-Chairs and those supporting them to get the feedback and prioritise what's important. A game changer for us and I'm beyond excited about it and where next 🙌 Maria Flanagan Victoria Entwistle Neil Edwards Simon Messenger Susan Hunt Gayle Derrick #peoplepower #coproduction
